New hood idea in motion!

Just ordered my new Suncoast Creations Z style hood today. Hope to get in a week or so. This is a hood im going to take a chance on. A few months ago I posted a similar thread in which I asked for opinions on the new hood. Basically I will be making my own hood by modifying the Z style hood. Idea is to get this thing to be unique yet tasteful. It may not be appealing to all but if it works for me heck why not.
The Z style hood is a fire hawk hood molded to a camaro hood. It's a camaro not a fire hawk wanna be so I'm going to have it modified to remove the center post and make one large air inlet as opposed to the dual nostril inlet. Unique, functional, and to me it looks good. My concern is being able to do this clean and not make it look like a hack job and I also don't want to compromise structural integrity in the front. Odds are I will hit up a local body/fiberglass specialist to do the work. Then it's off to paint and then get some stripe treatment ideas on that are in the air still. The pics I'm posting were provided by @whiteheartbeat as he had the exact same vision that I had. He did the photo chop on there as well. As far as i know when it's done it will be the only one in existence so that's cool lol it's a simple mod that I think will really set it apart. Who knows. I will update this thread periodically. Man I'm glad you finally got something ordered! I doubt it's gonna be that simple but I think it's doable!! Sorry for not being able to get that hood to you! I'm super busy and also have another baby on the way, hope you understand!! Looking forward to this man!!!

Looks a hundred times better with no center bar, personally I'd leave it all silver though, no stripes/other colors

Thanks for the positive encouragement guys. I appreciate it. This hood will be going on an Arctic White Z so stripes are up in the air I may add something to add some more visual pop. I'll have to wait and see. It definitely seems easier on paper than what will actually have to be done. I'm trusting the craftsmanship of the fiberglass/body guy that will be doing it. Guy has some experience and done some pretty intricate jobs so I got my fingers crossed. @whiteheartbeat don't sweat it man you tried your best. I just found a good deal on it and swooped it up. No worries! And like I said I'm gonna keep this thread updated hopefully this gets movin quickly. Just checked tracking and it says delivery by Friday! I'm stoked! And I'll be able to utilize an LS style k&n intake a la ram air style lol. Passed on the lid set up ( I know makes more power ) but I didn't wanna deal with the conversion this is a straight drop in. Here goes nothin lol

Ok, gottcha. I didn't realize they where out of production. There is actually one on craigslist about 10 miles from me.

I tried to find an ultra Z for two years. If I found one owner wouldn't ship either because of cost or risk of damaging it in transit. And most people wanted like 1k and up shipped. I even tried to get 6LE to make em again but that was a difficult process didn't have funds to make one and they wanted deposits before there was a finished product. Anyways aside from that this will be a cool project and help stand out from the rest. Honestly an ultra Z was my first choice but I just couldn't get one. Lol knowing my luck that one on craigslist is like $350 and the guy will ship for like $100 haha @rjc1629

LOL, ya it was $300, but I checked today and it's gone. I went through the same thing trying to find an original 96-97 SS spoiler. I feel your pain.

Dang man that's how the world works sometimes oh well. I'm excited about this regardless.

I think it will look good if just the center part was out. The way I photoshopped it, I made that flat part at the opening black and left it silver in the other pic. Could be just painted black to make it sort of disappear. That the other part I didn't like on that hood. You'll come across an Ultra Z now that you bought this one! Lol I went through great lengths picking the suncoast one up in GA and I'm in CT, just to come home and find the Ultra Z in NJ!! Anyways this will be original for sure!!!

I'll take more pics later. Can't wait to start the cutting/modding. At the same time I'm scared to start the cutting/modding haha here we go.

@popo8 wow man that's pretty much the idea! Crazy find there , that's exactly what I'm shooting for. My hood is the suncoast creations Z style. Got it for $605 shipped new. It mimics the fire hawk hood I'm just figuring out how much of the nose gets cut out and then I gotta find a grill for the inlet to keep larger debris out. Thanks for the pics man!

My hood got here a few weeks ago, it finally made its way over to my fiberglass/body specialist aka my gf's neighbor and all around mechanic. He does a lot to help me learn to do stuff on my own and he obviously takes care of stuff that comes with experience like engine building fabricating etc. but it's now getting mocked up for the cuts and modification. Lol don't ask @DanDalessandro crawling would be an understatement. Lots of complications came up. Ie broke up with my GF of 4.5 years and her neighbor is my mechanic/fiberglass/paint guy. And well my parts are just hangin out in her garage. It's been a struggle. Neighbor is cool with me were solid friends it's just he also bites off more than he can chew. Tries to help the world and ends up 100 projects at once and my stuff has been on the back burner.

Ugh man, you've got a awkward situation. Sorry to hear about that. Hope your plans for the hood get worked out soon. I'm with you as well on liking the Ultra Z hood. If I had some things to do over again there would be one on my car.

Still in limbo. Waiting on body guy. He's got 10,000 other things going on right now. Will update as soon as there is an update. I've got parts sitting waiting to be modified and slapped on! Sorry guys. I've been lagging on this

Update finally! Some good news and not so good news. Unfortunately my hood endeavor won't be exactly how I envisioned. It can be done but I'd risk ruining a $600 hood. From what the body tech told me it wouldn't be easy or cheap and it's not guaranteed to look good or retain its shape for very long. As the hood was designed it needs the middle support. I would have to drop some serious coin to get it done right and it basically like building a new hood from this existing one. I mean it had been done that T/A that popo posted was done I just don't know what it looked like underneath. I've decided to just have that front portion with the middle brace masked off and painted black so it doesn't stand out as much. I'm kind of on the fence about it still I really want it done but I'm also not willing to sacrifice my $600 investment.

Anyway aside from all that paint day should be coming up in the next couple weekends. Saturday for prep and Sunday for paint got my car back Monday. Other goodies will go on with no issues. Then it's off to get some pics!

Here's what I'm not a thinking of doing since cutting and doing the fiberglass work doesn't look like it's gonna happen..

Hopefully this comes out really well though. Should I paint it gloss black ? The idea is for it to "disappear" and I'm not sure if gloss or matte is better there. I'm thinking gloss. Might spray the headlight buckets gloss black while were in there doing the paint thing. All of my lights are currently getting "blacked out" with tint. It will create nice contrasting points on the car. A set of nice new shiny headlight buckets might be kinda nice too.

Why not tape it off and do it urself in some matte black plasti dip. If u like it... then have it done in paint... if not.... peel it off.

Yeah. Well idk. I'm looking at this shop and wondering I may try another spot. This one seems like it may flake. I'll take my stuff to a more we'll know fiberglass guy and see if it can be done for a reasonable price. I mean crazier stuff has been done by specialty shops. This is paint first body second I'll go to body / custom specialist first then paint after and see what can be done. I'm not quite ready to call it quits just yet...I'll update more often since I've taken care of some things that free up my time.

That's too bad if it can't be done. When I was debating what to do with mine I did spray the area exactly how you plan on doing it. I however used matte black. If you want it to disappear gloss in my opinion wouldn't exactly do that. Anyways let us know how it turns out!!

First paint shop bailed. Checking out a new shop next Tuesday, sent them an email and from what they see the custom fiberglass work looks possible! I had a feeling that first spot wasn't going to put in the effort! This shop looks promising and has 100's of 5 star reviews some of which coming from actual car enthusiasts and not just normal people getting body repairs. There were some actual custom pieces being done. I'm excited to take my hood there and see what they say! This project isn't dead yet!

Hell yeah keep going. I've been contemplating it if I could just convince myself to put a fiberglass hood on.

Well guys it is official. My Camaro goes in for paint next Tuesday. Hood is being modified, found a better shop that is willing to do it. Other goodies will be painted and put on as well. I'll put pics up soon. Basically my appearance build is finally becoming a reality! Started with the new wheels now on to the body!
