What's your thoughts on purchasing used heads? I found a set of LE2's for a steal of a deal. $500.00 with GM 1.6 RR and push rods. I have been burned before and just don't want it to happen again. Attachment 30702Attachment 30703Attachment 30704Attachment 30705Attachment 30706Attachment 30707

I would have them magna fluxes to check them for cracks at your nearest machine shop. That is less than half price without the rocker arms. Good luck.
I know that's why it's a hard deal to pass up. The problem is he is 3 hrs away and I would not be ablable to have them checked out till after I pick them up.
He also said they only have 6 Dyne passes on them. Said less then 300 miles on them. Said he is selling because going a different route with his build.

And sell or scrap those rockers so they don't take your motor out
sounds like a SMOKING deal. Spray carb cleaner in ports and see if it runs thru the valves (bent valves). If slightly bent the springs can sometimes seal the valve off and make it not leak but if you do see carb cleaner run past valves into the chamber you KNOW they are bent. Look at the center head bolt hole and make sure there is no crack going to the water jacket 1/2" away on deck surface (overheating). If that checks out I would ask to see the bottom end they came off of and look for marks on pistons (stacked rod beariong or broke timing chain ipossibly bending valves, etc)Lloyd
Is he not on the interwebz? Can't be that hard to find the original owner of em and check history of their use.

They are gmpp, which do have a track record of failing. I'll dig up pics in a min. We have scorpions in the heads cam car and they are working fine up to 6500
