Will a 20yr old regulator (only thing not replaced) possibly give you low fuel pressure? At idle it is about 34. With vacume unhooked it is around 38. Yes i do know it should be around 43 with vacume unhooked. Any insite?

Possible I guess but I'd verify the reading with another gauge before you spend $ on parts. How does it run?
It runs good till you put the pedal to the floor and it misses a bit between 3-4000 then clears up and runs like a raped ape. I have been chasing the miss for a bit and began to wonder if it was fuel related. New coil, not msd, GM opti. new plugs and MSD8.5 wires that all look good.
Is it a diagnostic gauge under the hood or an internally mounted one like on the A-pillar? I'd confirm the low reading with another gauge and if it's the same then try a FPR.
I have i one internally mounted and i have also checked it with my diagnostic under hood one as well. I guess i will replace the regulator and see what happens.
20 years old?! I wouldnt hesitate to change it out.

Any update? I had low fuel pressure related miss on my 96 z28. Changed out the fuel pressure regulator as well, but it wasnt the problem. Have you by chance run low on gas? I had a pump die on me from running out just once.
With no vacuum it goes to max, if you have less than 40 with the vacuum unhooked and a new fuel pump I'd suspect the little rubber line in the tank has a crack or hole.
No i havent gotten around to changing it yet. It will get changed in a couple of week regardless whether it fixes the problem, when the car gets put away. I will pull the pump and check the hose as well. When i get it all done i will post the results.
