Plasti-Dipped the V this weekend. Lots of pictures

Learned quite a bit going thru the process. If I had one more gallon of dip the roof and hood would look much much better, but not bad for a weekend project. This was 2 gallons of gunmetal and 2 gallons of anthracite. Has some stripping on the roof and hood but meh it is what it is at this point.

What I started out with cleaning the damn thing after being on the road for about 3 weeks

Power washed the car

Then hand washed with Dawn,

Then Hand washed with Dip-Wash

Wiped down with Pre-Dip Spray

and started taping

I removed the rear panel tail lights mirros and belt line moldings rather than taping these things. Extra 15 minutes in work I think paid off for the finish

After using up all the gun metal ended up with around 3 coats of anthracite putting them on very thick to hide the imperfections, I was getting about 5-6 coats with gunmetal with how light I was putting them on

Yea, be ready to spray for 2 hours straight. I was waiting to long between coats and my gun kept getting clogged. I was doing 30 min between coats when in reality it should have been 10 minutes from start to finish.

Lay the first coat on light and then soak that bitch with 50% over lays it took me awhile to get the pattern down so on the base coat I was getting alittle worried. by soak it, I mean I was on track for 5-6 coats with gunmetal ended with 5 and then out of two gallons of the mettalic I ended with 3 coats.

Did you get the backpack sprayer or the bottom cup? If you got the cup did you have to fill every coat?

using the cup, once I got it down I was filling twice for each coat

DYC has "certified" dippers around the country, like authorized retailers and they are charging $500 for a medium sedan.

I was in it for around 300, I could shoot my car again for 150 probably depending what color I did.

No side business for me. I think I would go crazy if I started working Saturday and Sunday

I have vintage gold for the wheels but I just had them powdered so I probably wont do that for awhile.

Might do another full car for another project, would like to do digital or artic camo something.

I thought about doing the Z in the new green digital camo I wear. Awful lot of design and masking, but one of a kind.

I wish once a color dried you could spray another and not have them melt together. Then I could spray white, and spray something else that could be peeled off leaving the white.
