Above 120, my gear shift vibrates like crazy. Is this because of the stock driveshaft? Would an aluminum or CF one get rid of this vibration? What about an LS1 DS?

LS1 Alum made a world of difference on mine! Bought it used for 75 bucks in mint shape.
I was thnking aboutpicking up an ls1 ds is it worth it?
Or you could have your driveshaft balanced.
LS1 DS is lighter.
Steel is stronger.
Yea getting your stock driveshaft balanced will work fine. You save some rotating mass by going to the ls1 shaft, but its not as strong. You should not have any problems either way.
If you plan on not modding any more than LS1 DS is the way to go , but if you want to keep modding and get some power out of the LT then have your balanced, like they said they are stronger.. I know i don't want to see what a drive shaft looks like coming through the floor board, do you?
Hey, once you go that far you should have a driveshaft loop... right?
a DS loop could save your life.
i don't know why but i never thought of getting the stock one balanced..
i've never heard of people breaking the aluminum ones.
how much lighter are the aluminum ones? light enough to feel it? i.e. better 60' times?
I had an LS1 shaft in my car....until it spit out in 3 pieces one night. I'll see if I can find the pics. After seeing the gauge of the aluminum used for the LS1 DS I would never put one back in my car. An automatic might get away with it but us manual guys are always going to shock the driveline harder and I just don't trust an LS1 DS to take the abuse anymore. The 1LE shaft is also aluminum and is a heavier gauge. If you want aluminum go 1LE. If you want strength, go with a Denny's N20 shaft...at least that's what I did.

yea ill stick with my stock driveshaft. holy shit.
Um yeah, all it took was 3K RPM and drag radials for my LS1 DS to give up the ghost. I've got a Strange 3" chromoly DS now and a BMR safety loop.
Look close and you can see bits of the DS flying out...

Wow ill keep the stock one. For now.
so if i go get my stockdriveshaft rebalanced, then this should fix the high speed vibration? it starts around 80 mph, granted i have 4.10 gears, its just have a rebuilt bolt on 355 LT1 with a t56 with a stout clutch
There a a few guys that snapped the Ls1 shaft and same with any stock DS. You can not beat the bang for the buck of the LS1 shaft!
There are tons of guys running real fast with a Stock 3" alum DS.
Im picking up one tomorrow and Im stoked. Im not too sure why, but hey, its progress :)
