NOCTURNAL-Z and I were discussing an idea......

So, while in KY, Colin (Nocturnal Z) and I were discussing an idea we had for a competition, and a certain assist ed from GMHTP was listening in......

We said that we would attempt to find out what kind of intrest would be around for our idea, so here it is.... give use some feedback, (positive or negative) however try to keep it on track because we plan on using this thread to email back to him...

Since I was so proud of my cars 740 mile trek to BG KY, and everyone was asking me to race, we got to discussing a "street car" competition between Colin and myself... Both of us drive our vehicles the 12 hour trek to the trak, race, and drive home.....

remember, I am a 6 spd, boosted 385ci...... Colin is a 6 spd NA roller motor ( he will have to post up his specs later)

STIPULATIONS:
-no tow rig, not even following
-no tools

-allowed to have a chase vehicle with track sneakers since our cars dont exactly have the storage room for other wheels and tires.....


Our next dilema was how to decide a winner....
At first (with the help from Justin at GMHTP) we came up with 33%, 33% and 33% for each category.....

We continued to discuss the dilema and decided, maybe some dyno numbers as well...
that would make 25% X's four categories.....

It began to snow ball from there, and the next thing suggestion was looks.....
That made 5 categories at 20% weight per category.....

Well, with that being said, I brought up creature comforts... AC, Stereo,pw, pl, ps, pdl etc.........

So now we come to you guys here at LTXtech.com.... we need your input... would there be any INTREST in a competition between two vehicles like ours, in a comp outlined as above.....

Anyways, my car is a solid-roller, forged 350ci. M6. No a/c, all other creature comforts though. I'm going to bed cause its late, I'll post up specific specs tomorrow if anyone wants to know...

Well I have always made sure my car was streetable. Jump in it and drive to Lodi from Seatlle and back in two days streetable.

I would say the car did this very easily until I had to put a full cage in it. So 10.oh is a safe cut off for this IMHO. My car is still streetable but not near as comfy as it used to be.

KISS. "Keep It Simple Stupid" is the way to go.

Dyno's do not race cars and drivers do. Max HP means nothing so Toss it out.

I started towing my car to save money. Seems others come home on it as much as I do. No big having a follow truck and trailer...MUCH cheaper then a tow truck ride.

I have carried tools in my car since I was 18. I crossed from Ga to WA many times with nothing more then the tools I had on me and a map...IN a z28 ;) No big.

I under stand your idea and like it but KISS is your freind.

BTW run with the tires you brung. Drag radials have came a long ways. we have many cars driving 100+ miles to the track and racing all day on them then driving home. Same 275s guys are running 4s in the 1/8th on ;)

I would judge on streetability, Fit and finish and the race numbers, maybe fit hadling in some how and you are set!

Something like that may be cool to incorporate, but that whole cross country trip thing may not seem very appealing to many people with built cars (the ones your trying to target). It would be alright for a grudge match between you two, but other than that, its not something many people would do IMHO. I think you'd be better off with a 30-50 mile cruise then go racing (which in all honesty isnt a short ride).

A few friends of mine run the true street event at the lsx shootout and have a blast.

Open it up to everyone, and call it a "Real Street" since we don't want to encroach on the LSx guys stuff.......and let me partake. :D

The problem is a 30-50 mile cruise can be done with anything that has a fuel cell bigger than 3 gallons.... we are trying to go to the opposite extreme... 700 plus miles, race, then 700 plus miles.....

Now that I think about it, I like what Ellis said about leaving out the dyno part of it. Honestly, what is the dyno gonna prove thats relavant to the point of this? Popo's car will certainly dyno higher than mine...but that doesn't necessarily mean it'll clear a quarter mile faster....

Definately is an extreme version, but I dont think you'll necessarily be able to find a lot of people to do that. Honestly, I wouldnt feel comfortable driving my STOCK SS with 50K miles on it for a 700 mile trip, racing it, then driving it home. Would it prob. be fine? Yeah.... But theres always the chance of something small and stupid breaking, which may not be fixable by driving to autozone.

I think you truely have a bad ass street car that can go anywhere... But I know of pleanty of guys with "street cars" that simply cant do it, even though they are still driven on the street occasionally and arent necessarily "track cars".

A good friend has a twin turbo C5 Z that should be running low 9's (hoping for 8's after more time behind the wheel) that is still driven on the streets and races in the "true street" class. Its fine on the 30-50 mile cruises and weekend warrior status, but simply cant go 700 miles, race, then go 700 miles back... Even though it is still driven on the street.

I just think your target group of people who are willing to do something like that is small, unless your opening it up to cars of all makes and models. Also, If you wanted to do something like this... I would have a meeting point for people to gather at, then cruise down together... Where they could be trailered to that spot, then drive down siince people would be coming from all different locations. :secret:

Sounds like biker build off. I dont know how far they rode their bikes but there were always break downs and what not.

I dont think its a bad idea. I think it would be cool if you got a magazine to cover it with your individual shops or something. Unless you guys really want to build a car drive it 1400 miles and say a best 2/3 race with no trials. :secret:

Honestly the "TARGET GROUP" was Nocturnal and Myself.... we can consider making it a bigger thing, however it originally started as a challenge he made against me and my car....
