okay guys and gals ... i have started to consider getting a hand held firearm for protection. i am not looking for a tiny concealed carry gun. but i will get getting my concealed carry license if i want to carry it in that fashion. my fiancee has her concealed carry and has a taurus 9mm. now i havent shot tons and tons of different guns and i have no idea on who makes a better gun for this and that ... so i am looking for a little direction here .... i have shot my brothers 9mm ruger and .40 S&W at the range with about 50 rounds each

here is what i am looking for ...
i want a gun that is rugged
holds 12-16 round
low recoil
can fix a laser (not red dot) to it
costs under $400

so ... where do i start

Do u plan to open carry?

Unless its a used Glock etc, I wouldn't trust a sub $400 pistol as my EDC.

For the most part yes I will open carry but I would like my concealed carry for those situations where I would like to hide the fact that I am carrying

And why open carry?

Open carry just makes you the first target when a bad guy comes in. You should seriously reconsider that.

Why? Both of my pistols are sub $400 and have never jammed or had issues with. I know glocks are nice but that doesn't mean you can't defend yourself with something "cheaper"

Again, as a NJ resident, I know nothing about firearms.
