Guy from mifbody has a 97 z that he will be parting out this winter likely too. Could probably snag the motor if the heads don't work out.

Well found out what broke on that trans. The case is ccracked 3 places in the valve body. And thats what allowed reverse to.apply.
Got the new core torn down. Looks like a nice virgin core that is in great shape. Gonna degrease it and get it real nice and clean it and paint it.
Then transfer all the good guts from my trans over to this one. Also picked up a hipster t btake over the tci one i had. And throw a new reverse band in it Cause it didn't like the 100mph skid lol.

U know anything about the HD casting on the bell housing? I did some research and supposedly it was a heavy duty version . Aka th475 Maybe? Supposedly they used straight cut gears but this one had helicals. Just curious if you knew anything

It was in 3rd gear and the reverse band applied due to the case cracking.

GM used a couple different Chevrolet pattern castings. Did your old case have the larger tapped holes for the dust cover? Those bells are a little more desirable because they're thicker in that areaQuote:

Its still a 6 bolt pump case but it looks like it has.a bit more material in the case and weighs a hair more.
What the heck you think caused the valve body circuitry on the case to develop a hair line crack? This trans is a reverse manual valve body. 34 element sprag, stock shafts, kolene steels with i think high energy frictions. 80E direct. It had a tci vb. That now Will be using a hipster.
When it was torn down everything was in spec, only the reverse band had heat in it but for obvious reasons
