And, here, we go...
And yet people wanna argue that we should not have armoured vehicles... Idk why it bothers people sooooo much.
You should not be able to.
Give a mouse a cookie... and well, you know the rest. Leave the military stuff to the military.
I am not saying its the norm, but more often than not, police have fancy military stuff and no extensive military training to use it. All leads to tossing flash bangs into baby carriages and accidental shootings.
In my opinion of course.
And comments like that is why i know people have no clue about law enforcement or our training. Thats not true at all.. we have extensive CMERT (our "swat") for all of the equiptment and tactics utilized during call outs.
Its not like armoured vehicles and flashbangs are things used on patrol...
When you can say the rate of SWAT raids is going down and not being used for trivial things anymore, we can talk, till then, you will def start to see the lack of distinction between a SWAT team and a patrol...
Posse Comitatus, all I am gonna say.
"In a recently released report, "War Comes Home," the American Civil Liberties Union discovered that nearly 80% of all SWAT raids it reviewed between 2011 and 2012 were deployed to execute a search warrant."
"In more than 60% of the raids the ACLU investigated, SWAT members rammed down doors in search of possible drugs, not to save a hostage, respond to a barricade situation, or neutralize an active shooter."
I am sure I could find tons more statistics, but, militarization of police forces is a bad thing IMO.
Edit: Don't take me for a fool I understand a flash bang isn't used in a patrol.

"Authorities did not make any arrests, nor did they find anything at the house during the raid. "
as long as the police arent throwing grenades around i'm good lol
regarding this last thing people are saying why didnt they shoot his hand that had the knife to dis arm him... really people this isnt a movie or video game...
Have you seen some of the weapons recovered from police raids or confiscated from gangs? Fully automatic weapons, body armor, and even explosives in many cases. The argument can be made that they are militarized as well.
I'm sure you've heard the saying,
"Never bring a knife into a gun fight"...
All the police are trying to do is level the playing field IMO
And thats the thing.. we are only trying... we are very unsuccessful at keeping up. The "bad guys" dont have to bud and budget for stuff. They get their gear at better than whole sale. Lol
No doubt, but where does the line get drawn? Criminals will always circumvent the law, so should every cop be out on patrol with assault rifles? A citizen is not guilty till proven so, and that will always put cops at the disadvantage.
I have no issue with special teams being equipped to handle specific instances of heavy weaponry, hostages, or loose gunmen, but for regular stuff.. seems a little excessive to me.
And perhaps that's society fault for pushing cops into that corner, but still.
