Ohhh this is a good one.. So I spent the day tearing apart my motor... stripped the heads/intake/accessories off of it. Does anyone want to venture a guess on how my cylinders looked on my 152,000 mile stock long block that has had a cc306 with a misfire running rich for the past 20,000 miles as compared to my 6800 mile shortblock that I already posted pics of...?

Probably had cross hatch on the cylinder walls huh???? I know the motor I pulled out of my T/A did.

Didn't do too much else today, cleaned up some parts and the accessory bracket and swapped some sensors for new ones.
Looking at that motor, if the new one can't be honed out, you might be able to get away with a .010 hone on your just removed block and then do a new set of pistons and use the rods/crank from the "bad" motor you got........

We still gotta clean up the bumper where it was cut so it is a bit smoother. It would kinda be like how the black berger panels would be on the back.

My heads apparently needed more work than I had hoped so there's about 250$ being spent at the machine shop for the heads.
I think those are done but haven't contacted them yet.
The shortblock has been honed and the machinist said it came out great (my apologies for my overreaction about how that would come out *inserts foot in mouth*) but it wont be reassembled until monday.
ETA... uhm... uh... 1 week? 2 weeks? lol

I got a 2 bar tune from Alvin, and checked over it against DTS300z's tune on his turbo LT1 and he said it looks pretty good (and fairly safe). So we'll see how it goes, I have a wideband and tunercats and whatnot so if I need to make any changes, I can.Quote:

Well talked to the shop with the heads yesterday and apparently the springs needed to be installed at a different (and the correct) height and with the 1.6 RR's, they needed the retainers shaved a bit for clearance purposes? Supposed to be working on the car some more today, gotta swap some fittings from intake to intake, maybe remove the fuel pump, clean the engine bay... and whatever little shit I can do while the motor isn't here.

this build is so bad ass! im going to have a ton of questions when i build my 355. how much have you spent on the engine and heads?
They are stock heads, so I only spent as much as the machine shop charged to clean them up.
The bottom end I bought second hand and got a deal on it but it required more work than was originally thought.
My $$ figures for the motor and heads wont help at all because of the things that I had to get fixed and replaced
o yeah Im going to use my stock heads ported. I think I want to build a 4 bolt block if I dont have one. chanses are mine is a 2 bolt.

My old motor is in pieces and this one is going in.. hopefully I get lucky and the new rings do their job. To be honest I'm sick of bitching about this whole situation, the seller will get another email from me and that will be that. I doubt I will be compensated in any way shape or form so I'm SOL.
Just like life, cars have their ups and downs.. hopefully things get better from here on out.
Oh and btw next person that screws me over, I'm hunting down and they will be on a missing persons list :)

So yea... the gouges are just ridiculous. I paid well over the majority of the machine shop bill, got very little compensation from the seller, yet he accused me of trying to scam him for a new motor? Highly improbable.
Ryan......I feel for you man, I really do. If you have a complete email trail from the seller stating the motor condition, have you considered small claims at the very least? Downside is it has to be filed in his jurisdiction, but it could be an option for a recoup of some finances. Hang in there buddy, you know that this is sometimes how these things go.

Its going to be fine, but it is going to cause some extra blow by. I think they were under the impression this was going to be a high maintenance race motor (tore down and worked on every weekend). When in reality we wanted it to be a 100k mile, better than stock replacement. We didn't really have any other choice with his budget. Id have personally sold it back to him and waited to do the build a bit longer.
I do hope the guy sees the pictures. He kinda pissed me off with his "your guy is trying to milk you out of more money comments" Jon
Yea, that's bullS***. What amazes me is he either noticed the scarring and didn't care or he is just F***ing blind. It is pretty apparent even after the hone that there was substantial trash in the engine on the original build. The scarring looks like it is too high to be piston skirts.
Yea he was pretty adamant about trying to tell me that I knew of these gouges, when every single picture of the motor that I have, is also posted at the beginning of this thread.
If ya'll can see those gouges from those pictures, I must have a serious eye problem because I can't. If I had known about them I would've never paid for the motor. I was told that his car never had any blowby or problems or whatnot and I just don't see how it is even possible to not have blowby when you have 10 gouges right next to each other that are over .005-.01 deep

Those gouges suck ass but they look like they are in normal places. Arent those from when the pistons are cold and slap around? I pulled my LS1 apart and all the tubes had them, all 8. But that was a 92k mile short. I suspect you got jewed a bit Ryan but you should know how it works. Kids are pricks and you get shafted with some parts but when its all said and done you will surpas your goals and not have a single issue.

And you have to remember. When running forced induction you're gonna have blow by and theres really no way to prevent it.
Nah these aren't from piston slap.. these are from either the rings (maybe some of the scratches) but more likely something was in this motor either when it was put together or no air cleaner or something of that nature. These scores are over .005-.01 deep so the ONLY way to get rid of em is to bore it out.. then it needs new pistons/balancing etc etc.Quote:
