Had the same debate when I did this. I have copper on mine and so did Karl when he rebuilt my engine. No issues (crossing fingers).

I have regular MLS HG but I put mine are bare. Reused em too and no leaks
Copper on mine. No problems.
It will seal better especially if there are any slight imperfections in the deck surface of the head and block.
Look it up on yellowbullet . Countless guys doing it over and over with serious hp cars
never coated my Cometics, never leaked....
Nothing on my cometics with a home prepped (razorbladed) deck surface no leaks
Are we talking a fresh surface on a new gasket? Then if so ya put them on dry. If your talking re using the head gasket then spray it. You can reuse them quite a few times
Brand new gaskets and freshly milled surfaces. I guess I'll use copper if I ever reuse them or push water. They have the factory viton coating on them right now.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand yet another delay to my never-ending motor build.
I bolted a head on and went to measure pushrod lengh. It looks like I'm going to need offset rockers (at least for intakes) because I get contact with the head when centering a rocker on the valve stem. 0.050" would do it. I will explore some options... not sure if Comp makes a 0.050 ultra pro mag 1.6 7/16 rocker.
Also, 2 of the Johnson lifters will need to be exchanged. One has a nick around where the axle is pressed in that's preventing it from sliding into the lifter bore. The other only slides in halfway because the upper portion OD is too thick. I tried swapping lifters around without any luck.
Probably going to swap timing sets while I'm at it. A little too much slack for my liking with the regular Cloyes 3145 so I'm gonna switch to the 3145-10. I figured that would be an issue with the line bore, Karl thought it was fine though. Probably is, but peace of mind.
I just wanna drive my car
Don't worry when you get it together it'll run instant 10s
All the little details. It will be worth it.
