The engine in my old man's car runs proforms and has about 45k miles on it with a 306 cam. So far so good.

The reason say to do certain things and not do others are because I have been there, done that, tried all the budget crap, and have killed this or that in the process. Wouldn't want to see your motor go boom. What you as the op do with said advice is your thing, your money, etc.
Like I said before, I would be concerned with the glittery shit coming out of the rockers. That, for me, the person who cammed a 236k mile motor with grooved cam bearings (there, i proved im stupid) would throw up a major red flag, and I don't wanna see you end up spun bearing in your next post....

my apologies popo8 i posted that cause i didnt know who was deleting what posts but i dont want any one doing that .... i know i am rolling the dice with the build but that is okay with me ... if it dies then i will build it again and do it different ... with this setup i just want to see how fast i can go for next to nothing. i have more plans for not if but when it lets go.

i had my first nitrous backfire the other night. an EVO VIII pulled up to me at the stop light and started boosting up his car and making the BOV pop and i gave him a thumbs up. he took off in a hurry on the green light and i proceed to drive like normal. he then kept playing with me for the next 3 miles as i ignored him. the again after driving slow and trying to let him move on we wound up at a light again next to each other. i opened my bottle and told him on green try to keep up. well light goes green and i take off and blow off the tires cause it was cold. well RPMs rocket up and go straight to the rev limiter. and BOOM. car dies .... well i pull over and johnny ricer does too and comes back to me and says who dude those flames were huge ... do you need a tow? i told him i am fine and i go this. i pop the hood and the elbow is blown off the TB and the MAf both. the plug in the top of the elbow (its off a impala or caddy style) is gone and the air box with the filter popped open ... so i take all that and toss it in the back of the car. i unplugged the MAF and crank it ... nothing just turns and coughs some. well after a few min of looking i see the coil wire go blown off too ... i plug it in and the car fires back to life. the ricer cant believe it and says whoa dude you fixed it. i shut the hood and tell him to have a good night and thanks for making sure i was okay. he says no problem. as i pull back on the road i spin the tires some. well after a half mile there he is again and he keeps saying c'mon round two. well at this point i was fed up with his antics so i yell 1 2 3 and he takes off after he has about 3 cars on me i floor it and get back on the spray... no spin this time and i real him as fast as he left me and then i kept walking away like he was sitting still. i shut down at 65-70 (speed limit was 75) cause i had 3 cars on him and i proved my point enough. short little romp but it was funny. any who ... car has now been put away till warmer days come ... now its time to got on a diet ... i got a welder today and i will start to play with sheet metal and making the car lighter.
In the LTX vs LSX realm, the LT1 won this round (vs the LS plastic intakes). A local guy around here had a nitrous backfire and it blew the back of the plastic ls6 intake off.
I'd be concerned if it did any more damage. Ballsy that that hit it again right after that mishap lol. At least it still runs and you are alright.

well i did some more tinkering / weight reduction with the car yesterday ... took out the rest of the carpet (front half) and took the air intake the PVC thing didnt fit how i wanted it to so i am going to get some thin walled metal pipe and weld up my own.
but i have a few questions first ... so the MAF ... if i un plug it the car run off speed density right? well the car also has no 02 sensors plugged in. also the IAT is also plugged in but jus sitting next to the intake manifold. so the car is running off the MAP and VE tables basically as i understand it.
by plugging/ installing all these back in and on will see any noticable power gains? i am not talking improved drivability i am talking at WOT ponies to the tires.
Do t forget to tell everyone u want to remove ur hood (not just at the track) for weight reduction.

.... well that didnt last long ..... one of two things is happening ... A i am blowing through my stock converter with that 200 shot OR B trans is starting to slip.
At wot in second the rpms flew up. I got off the bottle and let off the gas then got back on and it drove fine. no slipping feeling .... i repeated my test a few times with out nitrous and the trans worked perfect ... trans temp was about 145-150*F
the pulls were on the highway and the speed limit was 75 ... so the pulls i did were starting were from 40 to 80mph (yes i was speeding 5 over) the first pull was on the 200 shot and that was the one with the "slipping / blow through" ... the other 4-5 pulls were not on the bottle and the car did everything perfect. so i dont know if i have trans problems or converter problems?
also its important to note .... i dont spray through the shifts .... i get off the bottle let the trans shift then once the next gear is on and i have seen the rpms drop and start to rise again then i get back on the bottle.

Refresh my memory, are you running that rebuilt trans from the white car? Sounds like it could be blowing through, but may be time to beef up the trans/converter and eliminate some points of failure before parts go flying. :doh:
no the white car was a 95 .... one year only trans ... needs 12 pin connector to shift and do its thing .... my 1994 bird only has 11 pins in the harness. so it will bolt up but not talk to each other.
now i am debating on going to a th350 and ditching the overdrive and electric trans game .... going old school.

That is good you're thinking about a trans. I think putting the car on a roller, adjusting the timing, and seeing what it does in a controlled environment would be a little more important though. You know you're pushing the limits with a 2k investment, why keep pushing when you've already had a nitrous backfire and now converter/trans issues? Do it right and save your life and someone else's, only a matter of time until one of your adolescent ideas of running without a hood or race gas in a washer tank comes back to haunt you (and maybe others). :whistle:
You can still make your car fun and safe on a budget, it's been done many times. :)

What converter do you have in there? With that big a shot, does it have an anti-ballon plate?
at the moment its the stock converter.
i have a vigilante 3000 10.5" single disk lock up waiting to go in.
