If you have to do a rebuilt its a no brainer to do a 383. The cost factor is not an issue. Cranks same cost. Clearance the block yourself if you can.
And bigger is always better when it come to cubes...lol

Im want to see someone clearance there own block. sounds like it would be fun to watch the motor blow to pieces after not taking it to a machine shop. That is unless you have access to a machine shop and know how to do it yourself then your all good :D
i would rather keep my stock bore 350 over a 383. but being i have a forged an studded an half filled sitting on a engine stand i mite as well use it. But one day when i do have the cash i will build a stock bore 350 forged light weight an high compression. Everyone an there brother have 383s now days, when it comes to bore .030 to .060 over there really minimal. The stroke seems like its where its at, but i hate jumping on a boat with everyone else doing the same thing there doing. I dont feel so bad about it though cuz ive had my 383 since 08 which is longer then most so i can say they copied lol:disagree: i just love to be different

imo the bottom end doesnt make all the power the cam and heads an intake make the most of it. doesnt matter how many cubic inches the bottom end is if the cam an heads arnt right for it you will still own a turd.
Lawman, I guess you never clearanced a engine before hu.. I've don't tons of em. If you have your rotating assemb. and know how it sure isn't hard.
Paul, I agree the heads/cam/etc make the power. But what good is it all if your bottom end won't hold together.
All things equal. And I mean ALL more cubes will always come out on top. I'm didn't get into this game yesterday. I've had my 9 second cars.
This combo will be back in the 9s also.
It has the callies lowerend to hold it together. It has the ported heads , yada yada yada. If 18psi of boost don't do it its only 1 bolt away from a pulley change. That's untill the 9bolt rear end takes a shit.
well i was reffering to cubic inches, not material. Theres so many dog ass 383s out there its not even funny, i mean really 383s making under 400hp whats the point. Like i said u agreed h/c/i makes the power, i was basing all judgement an opinions based on a stout forged set up. hyperutectic, cast steel, or nodular iron, or powdered steel completely outta the conversation. i would never clearence a block myself tools or not. Before ever using a block or putting money into it with bore an stroke an rod clearence i would want the block sonic tested for strength, mine is already half filled so i wont do that when i re assemble but the money has already been spent. I dont hate on big cubic inch motors, or the 383. 383 to me has just become way to common anymore when u say i have a 383 you will get the same reaction as saying u got a 350 no one cares cuz they dont seem to be anything special anymore, ppl dont know how to spend the money in the right places an set them up to run there potential. As i maybe somewhat young i didnt jump into this yesterday ether.:)

They are way to common for a reason. A 383 makes a nice trq curve down low for a very respectable and fun street car. Most of the dog 383s out there are as you said. People who spend the $ in the wrong place. And or needed a rebuild but didn't have a few extra thousand for heads, converter , etc to fully take advantage of the setup.
You remind me of myself when I was your age man. Built a few fun cars. Knew a lot, where to spend the $ to build a nice combo,helped everyone, Etc.. Me,phil,john and all the "old timers" were the same back in the day.
I still have pics. And slips from back in the day big guy. Was a 383/afr 210s and a buncha nitrous. Reason I don't like juice anymore cost to much always filling up bottles.
When my car hits the track it hits the track. No rush here. I like spending $ on doing stuff with my kids every weekend. I don't mind having a garage queen till its done. I drove it around the neibhor hood this month. Lol good enough for awhile.
