LTXtech.com is my drug.
I know, just we complained when we had to go a few extra days, I never knew there was a law like this lol
JAG- Project FrostFire
i only learned it cause im in the school. apparently if more days are needed beyond june 30th... school admins must petition the state to allow the year to end with not enough days.
most of the teachers are complaing about the same thing... i keep telling them.. U KNOW , THE REST OF THE WORLD WORKS ALL YEAR ROUND.

Ill side on the teachers side on that one. They have a ridiculous amount of planning that has to go into their lesson plans. Even when it's summer they are technically still working and planning for next year. Lauren is already having to plan her student teaching semester and that's not till the Fall.

Want you guys honest opinion.
How do you feel about kids seeing you play games like Halo ect. That are shooting games without blood and any dismemberment?
As long as you make sure he knows the difference between video game and reality, I don't see an issue with it. Granted I'm not a parent, but I've always seen the root of the problem there as parents who don't watch over their kids much and make sure their kids don't let virtual spill over to reality.

This is the amount of snow/ice that it takes to get out of work early in Texas lol.

Personally, I think GAMES are GAMES, and the excuse that kids pick up violence from games, is an EXCUSE. Parents need to be parents, PERIOD. Hell when we were kids we ran around with toy guns, that were all black (no fancy colors to let people know they were not real), and we imagined shooting eachother, and being very violent. But when the time came for parents to be parents, they set us straight, let us know when the appropriate time was and was not....
Thats just me, and Im no parent, but I was a kid.... and for 12 years, I have been dealing with other peoples lives and kids for a living, and recently Im dealing with ALL kids...760 of them to be exact... and its the parenting, the lack of responsibility, and having an excuse...a disease, disorder etc for EVERYTHING.
Well, I've got mixed feelings. Some people say it desensitizes them to killing and I believe that is the case for some. Others it has no effect on. I look at it like this. Some people are more predisposed to be alcoholics. Some people will drink around their kids saying that it will teach them to be responsible drinkers. If they are going to be alcoholics its not going to matter if you drink responsibly around them or not at all. They are going to have problems regardless. The world is a messed up place. The kids that are going to become murderers and the like are not going to get it from video games alone. I would put games like call of duty or grand theft auto where you are actually killing or assaulting another human being as the worst. On the other hand games like halo, skyrim or other sci-fi types would be a little better due to the fact that its not a human being that you're after. Just my opinion
That's the issue me and the wife are having. She came into the living room and saw ke playing Halo. Riding around in a Wrath( alien type tank that shoots plasma looking shots) and shooting at people with a gun. No blood or dismemberment, they just fall or go flying through air when blown up.
She got mad at me. And compared it to him watching something like the last Rambo movie. I see no problem in it. My son only pays attention when Im flying something ect. Its not like im playing Army of Two or COD.
Games are games. If people think the games are influencing and desensitizing kids, they need to take a much closer look at the parenting going on. Parenting is where the vast majority of the issues lie. Without parenting, kids aren't learning right from wrong, what is and isn't acceptable. They're learning to do as they please and feel.
@popo8 All you man.

Being one of the younger people on here, I grew up playing violent video games. Especially because my brother could buy them.
I was playing call of duty when it first came out, and have been playing it ever since. And I agree, it is a parenting issue in society, not a video game issue.
I feel like society makes too many excuses for our issues, we have genuine problems, but we don't target the problem, we make an excuse for that person and treat it like a disability.
Just my opinion
Well me and the wife had a talk. And I showed her the game. Then explained I grew up playing these type of games(granted on older platforms). Raised around guns, hunting, movies. Listened to heavy Rock music.
And I turned out to be a good husband, father, person. Because my father explained to me the differences. So she ended up agreeing with me.
Does anyone have the Samsung mega? I am looking at newer phones and I am down to the mega or the galaxy note 3. I'm working on getting a tab 3 10.1 so if I get the note and the watch and tab they can all sync. I can't upgrade thru my plan or they will kill all my unlimited data. So I am stuck paying retail so I am looking for real world experience first.

Well, I just got some potentially great news today (if anything comes to fruition from it). I've been stuck in the same Site Support job at work for over 2.5 yrs now, will be 3 come June. I've been trying to find a way to move up or out of this position just to get into some new stuff and learn some new things (nearly 3 yrs of fixing end-user errors and broken laptops will make you want to smash your head through a wall). Well, I've been doing the entry level phone and voicemail setups for my region of the company (which covers everything from Texas all the way to the west coast) because at the time they trained me to do it, the infrastructure team responsible for it was severely short-staffed and just didn't have the man-power to do the entry level stuff. Well, they've been making good leaps toward getting their shit organized and trying to free up some of their budget to bring more bodies on to their team. Since I was able to leave the office early today due to the ice/snow and work from home for the rest of the day, one of the guys on the Voice infrastructure team called me up to speak privately and let me know that he and his manager have both actually been thinking about trying to pull me off the Site Support team and get me under them to do the phone support I do for the entire country, not just my region. I asked him what the hell he's been waiting for lol. We're also at a unique transition time where my manager just shifted to a new guy who is still learning the ropes of our team and who does what, etc. This would be the perfect time for them to go to my new manager and request the team change, provided they can procure my salary into the Infrastructure budget. Even if it's just a lateral change pay-wise, it's going to be a great transition for me career-wise. Right now, this little conversation is only known between him, his manager, and me, but they're going to see what they can get pushed through and try to help me get out of my current role that bores me to death. I will have a lot more potential to learn new things and advance my abilities into a more specialized field (which will in turn earn more money in the long run) as opposed to my current spot where I do so much generalized support that it's impossible to get into just one thing alone and move forward. General rule of IT: general knowledge only keeps you low man on the totem pole; specialized knowledge climbs the chain and brings the bigger paycheck. If they manage to make this happen, I'll get to start focusing on Cisco training and can work toward getting certs, such as CCNA Voice and such. I'm pretty stoked about it and happy to see my work is not going unnoticed (he told me I'm the only guy on the Site Support team they trust to properly set everything up and troubleshoot it like I do, since the guys on the east coast call them nearly daily about mistakes they've made asking how to fix it lol). Here's to hoping for bigger and better things coming my way this year. :beer2:
Hey @meissen, do you do any work with CUCM & CUCA and/or Cisco WebEx/Jabber?
get it done dude........you know you can do what you gotta do, so push for it
I would too if funds allowed but I think this RAZR is about tapped out. I am sorta looking to go the budget rt till I can afford a better plan and phone. Plus when I end my contract on my air card in April I will need a phone that can handle tethering better.

Keeping my fingers crossed for ya - IT can be cut throat sometimes. IMHO, get those certs. I'm kicking my self in the ass for not getting the A+ Server+ Security+ etc when it used to be lifetime certification. I have a Server+ from 2011 that's probably about ready to expire. :(
We use Cisco WebEx for instant messaging and meetings at GM, but aside from using it that's about the extent of my knowledge with it.
IMHO - find a position in which they'll pay for a) training and b) certifications and you're golden. In IT that can be hard to come by sometimes. I'm in IT Audit which has actually turned out to be rather good for training and certifications.
Thanks man, it's been on my to-do list for a good while, but I've been so focused on knocking out all of our debt at home before anything else that I haven't gotten to taking any training courses or paying for the tests yet. I think our company has a small set-budget for training, but since it's not much, it's pretty hard to get on the list to use the training credits. Generally the guys who are either in higher tier positions or have more tenure get first dibs on the training credits and the rest of us just have to hope next year we get a shot. The first thing I plan to do if they can get me on their team is learn the ins and outs of the Tandberg units we use, since I have no experience with them at all and it pains me to have to pass those tickets off when I know I could work them if I was trained to. Just can't add that load onto my plate with everything else I do right now as Site Support.
I'm at Presidio Networked Solutions, Inc. and I believe we're currently the single largest Cisco partner in the U.S., so we get all kinds of fancy goodies from Cisco like an entire 3-screen telepresence setup that takes up a whole room lol. I know working knowledge with all that stuff is worth gold when hunting for a new job.
good luck Peter!!!
