Considering upgrading my Baer brakes...

I already have their brakes the same as yours except I didn't have the 2 piece rotor. SO you're saying you can use the existing bracket and just upgrade the rotor and caliper? That's cool if that's the case. My brakes are fine but nothing compared to Stoptech's system. Basically did a similiar test on the autobahn and my brakes were blown out the door by a good 75 ft from 170mph to 0 stop against a 01 SS.. They're good for stateside driving as you don't go fast anywhere for an extended period of time but I want some real binders and Stoptech's are premo. I won't say which are better as that doesn't matter for me but dollar wise you can beat their setups.

Well, my first question would be; what stop tech brake system did the SS have? If he also had stoptechs two piston caliper, I would say that I am impressed! If he was using a four or six piston caliper, then I would say it was far from a fair comparison vs your Baer two piston setup, and I would think Baers four piston would be a good choice. But, other than just checking out stoptechs website, I have no experience with them, so for all I know they might very well be better than baer.

Back to you question though; yes you would only need to upgrade rotors and calipers as long as you didn't go to the Baer 6S calipers or better. You would like me be able to upgrade to the 6P calipers and still use your existing brakets (according to Baer). I can't say for sure that they would still clear your wheels though, so that might be something else to consider.

He was on a 4 piston setup front and rear. Stoptech builds for Porsche and all the other exotics under the guise of Brembo. How you beat a 6 piston wilwood setup is beyond me but then again wilwoods aren't really known for their stopping power but more for drag purposes.

Hmmm...gonna have to look into Baer's packages then as that may be the better option since I've already got the baseline covered. What's it costing you? You can PM if you on the details.

If he was running a four piston front caliper setup and he beat your two piston setup then I would still say it wasn't a fair match up. Then take into consideration he had ANOTHER four piston caliper setup on the rears, vs your factory small one piston calipers and I would say the conclusion should have been obvious before the contest began.

I don't consider myself to be an expert on all the different brake kits out there, but I do know that given the same number piston calipers vs the same number piston calipers (and equal vehicle weight), Baer has been superior to Brembo, Wilwood, or anything GM has ever produced. In some cases like my instance vs a six piston Wilwood caliper, my Baer two piston was able to even outperform when it had a much smaller caliper. Again, I can't speak for stop tech though. But I would guess that that if he was only 75 feet in front of you from that kind of speed to a dead stop, that given the same caliper setup from Baer on your car, I would not be surprised if the Baer setup was victorious.

I'll shoot you a PM for the details the techs gave me from Baer.

I have always heard a non floating 4+ piston caliper setup is always better than a floating 2 piston setup. The clamping force can be used to move both brake pads to the rotor instead of trying to just push the caliper away against one of the brake pads.

Keep in mind all that have been mentioned are fixed (non floating) setups. I am unaware of any current performance brake company that offers floating setups.

Generally speaking the higher number of pistons, the greater the stopping power. This is only generalized because it usually is directly related to surface area that the caliper fits over the rotor, not actually from the number of pistons itself.

I would imagine with more pistons you can get more clamping force over a wider area.

Well, time to partially ressurect this thread! I have officially bought the more insane upgraded 6 piston Baer brakes. They have been at my house for a while, but life has been pretty hectic, so I am just now finally doing the swap!

I will be selling my current Baer brake setup, but it has already been promised to be sold to a fellow LTX member. What I had were phenominal brakes. WAY more of an upgrade than the OEM LS calipers or CTS-V setups out there.

I will be making a video of the difference in stopping power between the two systems. The first portion has already been filmed with my current Baer brake setup (after watching it a few times I am still really impressed!). After the new brakes are in, I will film the 2nd half, do the standard CALL911 editing, and post it for your enjoyment! :devil:

...oh, and those wondering from the beggining of this thread, I went with the "silver" finish. I didn't want the maintenance of the chrome, or for them to stick out the way the copper ones would.
