Why are the new Camaro's so slow?

Just sayin'. Sounds like the guys with 5th gens in your area just don't know how to drive.

Stupid slow? Your GTO was no where near as fast as a stock 6 speed! 04 GTOs were almost as fast as a good running ls 4th gen...almost! Maybe your test subjects weren't very good at driving as evidenced by them almost rear ending a semi-truck!

I am not talking at the track here, we are talking about from a roll on the street. The GTO is not a straight line car from a dig. Doing a 15 MPH roll race with several 5th gens on the streets has resulted in all losses on their end. And almost as fast as a stock LS1 F-Body, if you are talking 1/4, than yeah. But street race wise, I would disagree.

All I know is this I have raced several 5th Gen ss's in my ws6 and beat them all. At top end say 120-150 it evened out. And we stayed same distance but they didn't pull me back. I've also destroyed a 04 gto from a roll and a ls2 gto and ls1 fbodies. My ws6 was full exhaust only as far as I knew. Now that's not saying I haven't been beat because I have but not by a stock one. But my ws6 I had questioned along time being a factory freak for how it ran or modded by a previous owner because it ran way stronger than it should have. When have you ever seen an exhaust only lt1 ws6 beat a cammed, stalled ls1 trans am from a 40 roll to about 145ish? Or a stock 98 ws6 with a 150 shot on it.

So in my mind I wouldn't own anything but an ltx fbody for the simple fact of seeing people's faces after my pos lt1 beat them. But that being said alot of that may have been driver mod, but in my head they are slow. The guy I sold my ws6 too called me a couple days later bragging how he smoked a "new" ss with it lol

If I'm not mistaken it was your gears that killed you wasn't it? That's why I don't race my z yet. 2.73s and only midtubes to kinda compensate :(

Probably.. 3.42 gears, 3400 stall, automatic. He might have been a manual, not sure. Sucked ass either way... The v6's top end was pretty potent, he was hanging perfectly with my car.

Yeah I remembered reading that thread and the first thing that crossed my mind was "I'm dumping that boat anchor and doing a 6spd swap" lol

*Slightly* off topic, but I haven't gotten to race any new Camaros yet, all the ones around here seem to drive them out of vanity, not for speed, but I did get to race a '12 V6 Mustang from a dig [in Mexico ;)] and my 16 yr. old bone-stock LT1 hung dead even the whole way with him lol (he let off at 80 though).

The top end on the new 5th gen v6s are pretty strong at highway speeds. I'm sure a prepped track or maybe even a dig at the street would be different
