do not tune part throttle off of burn temps far too many variables while driving at part thorttle to consider........tune off afr at part throttle..........and forget diesels completely different world..........ive tuned both they are NOT the same.........part throttle you want stoich ~14.7......go off that table i showed you.....as for running WOT out at 13.4 some motors like it some dont...has alot to do with the chamber burn efficency....."lean is mean" is the biggest load of crap that has ever hit the internet boards.....the more efficent a chamber the more fuel it will use to make power and the less timing.....for safety on 93 octane which varies vastly from tank to tank run at 12.5 to a lean limit of 13.0.....you are not running tested fuel from a drum so walking the line is a bad idea.......
I am not ashamed to say I built this motor..........it was built well and taken alot of time to make sure it was put together right. How many can say that they built their own engine/transmission and also do their
own tune?
ME
I went out and got a copy from the car's computer.......it has 24 advance timing so that is low for NA motor but not for a boost motor.
get headers to put on it cause they would be useless anyways in the end. The rest of the exhaust is SLP for the Comp TA which I think is SLP big mouth.
That is VERY low for an NA motor and you will be doing nothing but chasing your tail trying to tune your WOT afr with timing like that.....with that CR you should be much higher...
And the cam was suggested is the one I have.....and back then it was pretty ratical for boost. By today's standards its mid size cam. I'm not one that believes you need a huge cam to make power for a boost motor.
again an internet fad.......i just built and tuned a 383ls1 with a 76mm turbo.....with a 23x/24x cam.....made 640rwhp on pump fuel at 12lbs :D
I has strong spark and no arcing from wires. And no misfires detected upto 6300 through autotap. Wish I had access to a oscilloscope to look at the spark curve just to verifiy the spark curve.
waste of time unless you have misfires....and without a cam reference to plot as well its impossible to tell the timing curve based off of Oscope data......i had a misfire issue with my car and ive been here....
Sorry that this one got kind of lengthy.....and no offense taken Tyler......I'm one that likes to learn.....I got screwed over by couple of tuners in the past so its time I learn to do it myself. One was
a well know tuner from OK. Car wouldnt even hardly start and went through a tank of fuel in 90 miles, just to get it down to him to do dyno run
so most importantly DONT listen to everyone who claims they are a "super tuner" and have "years of experience" most of these people are morons trying to put food on the table......you will realize who knows their stuff sooner or later.....and the info youve gotten so far and have tuned off of is FAR off track.......
