What mufflers are u runnin?
Hooker SuperComps, ORY, Doug's cutout (I think it was closed, but honestly I didn't check lol), and Pypes catback. They use their Violator muffler which is pretty aggressive and one of the best sounding things in existence IMO. I love that it'll be different than the rest of the LT1 crowd from a sound perspective goes.
Not sure what is on your T/A, but I would consider one. They are from Hatfield and set up at most of the big events near us (Maple Grove, Carlisle, Englishtown, etc). Plus, Gail is a reseller. I like to bust their balls in person, though. Only thing you need to consider are tips, which for me the 3"in/4"dual out Corsa Clones were a no brainer.
I grabbed a few items last night that I can sell. Gonna bump up my sale thread and do some modifying later or this week sometime. Also gonna try to push some of the goodies off the Herndon pile LOL
I def love the sound. Idk if my stock motor would sound as good without "lump."
I really love ur tips as well. But as u said... i dont wanna bite ur style.
You wouldn't be taking anything from me, I'd love to see what it sounds like on a stockish car. Also the tips I got are not easy to find so no beef there lol. Seriously though, check it out!
I posted one of the clips in this video on FB and instagram (@thechrisharner). It ran for a minute tops and sounds good. What is the most surprising to my tuner is that the canned tune that was on the PCM from @green96ta BP Automotive is actually pretty decent. He took some fuel out but otherwise it's fairly safe. Still will be retuned, but this was enough to start the car and make it run safely. I've already received mail orders for the car when it was bolt on that were garbage haha.
Anyway, the smoke at the end was paint burning off the headers. No fluids or anything were leaking (knock on wood). Life got in the way on this build, but it's soon done. Last teaser video before dyno time.

Here's another shot of the can setup. The coolant reservoir was the most expensive by far as it's a repurposed Snow meth bottle lol. Looks much better than the OEM one.

I should have taken pics of the Lingenfelter timing tuner, harness, and protective box. It's going in the "hole" on the driver side, behind the hump and between the brake booster and fender. It's actually an electrical box that was painted to match the engine bay. All wiring is cleaned up and loomed. Nitrous solenoids are mounted under the cowl. We took the plastics off and dipped them as you see briefly in the video.
To-do:
Tires need to be looked at as some like to go flat
Front bumper/fogs/support/headlights need installed
Mount the nitrous bottle bracket and heater setup
Interior re-assembly of plastics, clean up and tuck wiring, install steering wheel
Move car to dyno for break-in and tune
There will be more to do, I'm sure. Every time we looked in the engine bay, something got changed or painted lol. Should be strapping it down on the roller tonight if all goes well.

Purchased Hella free form housings and blinglights fog lights.
Hella uses an H4 bulb and the fogs are H3. Both will be using Osram Night Breaker bulbs. I'm usually a Sylvania Silverstar Ultra guy, but these were cheaper and Osram owns Sylvania. Based on the reviews, they should be fine. I could also run HID's in them, but I'd rather rock BLS's sweet projector housings. These will more than exceed my needs for now. Thanks to those who recommended them.
BTW- the housings are clean and the glass is much thicker than I thought. Better than OEM for sure, and I mean both headlights and fogs.
Hmm. I recall the free forms having a clear front lens. They should outperform the stockers regardless.
I almost went with the zxe's, but they were a little ricey and like double what the Night Breakers cost.
As for the headlights, they are NOT free form. I had it stuck in my brain when I typed this up earlier, but they were cheaper, had solid reviews, and came with adapters. Whether they work or not will be a different story.
These are free forms:

Thank you for the kind words. I'll probably throw em in tomorrow while the bumper gets put back on.
Cant wait till u post some pics of them lit up...

Nothing too useful to show as I didn't take any pics. The headlights look 100x better and I didn't install them in the car, just the headlights for now. Going in later today though. The Hella bulbs look pretty good, so they will make nice spares. The housings came with a little crappy harness for the back of the bulb, so I cut that apart and identified which wires do what on the stock H4666 harness. Wired, soldered, re-loomed, and taped up the new H4 to H4666 conversion harness and it looks great.
The fog lights were a little different than the former aftermarket fogs I installed years ago. First, in 07 or whatever, I bought Blinglights 93-97 fog lights with a red halo and we had to drill the brackets in a few spots to make it work. It was also horribly hardwired into the stock wiring and the LED halos weren't even hooked up. The new lights are blinglights as well, but instead of red halos they are white, slightly smaller, and are actually an OEM replacement. I had to slightly bend the fog light brackets so I could bolt them in properly, but they came with a full relayed harness, switches, etc. to install them in a car that may not have had fog lights.
This time around, the new fogs will have nice weatherproof connectors and the LED Halos will be wired into the parking light circuits. It's going to look amazing.
The bulbs look like a PITA to replace in both headlight and fogs, so I am hoping the Osram bulbs last awhile lol.
As for the rest of the car, I plan on bringing it home tonight. Slight vibration coming from the rear which prevented us from the dyno, but it did drive down the road under it's own power. Checking out the pinion angle tonight among other things.
I understand now why Frank says Protorque is so different from the rest of the converters out there. It's a 3400 but flashes higher and is pretty damn loose, which is exactly what I wanted haha. @Cahall wasn't sold on my idea of the 3400 going into my 99% street driven car, but he knows I'm not right  and came around. Can't wait to get this bastard buttoned up in my driveway.
Working on a day/time for tint as well. Needs a GOOD detail and then I can throw some dip on it as well.

After a couple mile drive (heading to the dyno), one of the preformed rad hoses sprung a leak and the waterpump died (fuse). Gonna replace the hoses first and then figure out what's up with the waterpump. It was working just fine. May be related to the dummy LED setup that turns on when the pump grounds out.
Anyway, limped the car to the dyno stall, still need to install the new lights, bumper cover, and some odds and ends. Took the video above before we left for the dyno. There's also a hard spot in the steering due to bolts in the steering shaft. The shaft was taken apart when the rag joint eliminator was installed. The stainless bolts rub on one of the primaries.
All replacement hardware on the car is stainless and new, otherwise. Looks great and can't wait until it's done.
Man... it sounds fantastic!

So long story short, the shop I had it at had a falling out internally a few months back. I got strung along and pulled out. While the car is still a ways away from being streetable, it's closer than ever. I talked to @SSlowBoat regarding some overheating issues I was experiencing and he gave some good advice. Unfortunately that was while it was on the dyno and I had to resolve the issue a week later in my driveway.
The issue was that the system was never properly bled. The mickey mouse fix was to use a tstat retainer and when that didn't work, they wanted to install an in-line fill cap. Took it home, jacked it up as high as the front end and my HF floor jack would go, and let it eat. One good thing is that the shop did force water and air through the heater core and all kinds of crap came out. The car never blew hot air in the winter prior to going down, so now there's a chance lol. It now stays nice and cold. The fans now have a controller/rad sensor versus being controlled by PCM. They draw a lot of power though, so I need to address that and bump the fans up a little so they don't turn on at 150 lol. Also, threw out the retainer in favor of a 160* hypertech. Ran the car for 20+ minutes and it never got about 160*. Too cold, I know, but nice to know it's not overheating.
I have a couple small things to address and then it's tune time.

It's been in my driveway for a week and I only worked on it for an hour and 15 min. WTF! No more time to do anything until next week. A friend of mine said this yesterday and I completely agree: when we were young, we had no money and all the time. Now we're older and have all the money but no time.
So there is nothing to turn fans off at highway speeds? Fix that IMO.
It sounds great man!

Any updates?

Aside from finding a small leak somewhere on the pass. side of the engine/accessories...no time :(
I did get a promotion this week so my free time really took a turn for the worst lol. Hoping I can get some wrench time in on Sunday.
Well id say thats a great excuse. Congrats on the promotion!..
U and the wife should hop in the ss and come to the shootout.
LTXtech.com IS my drug...
That's a little far, but I do plan on making the APH/CPT car show in a couple weeks. Sadly, in the SS!
Bumping the old build thread. Starting to thaw out a little and getting stir crazy. Spending weekends working on my 5th gen while it's in storage has me eager to get my T/A up to snuff.
I did just pull the trigger on a super cheap Wolfe moly 6pt bolt-in rollbar with swingouts for $250! It'll be welded in after it's up and running. Debating whether I want to replace the 80k carpet or just shampoo and at most dye it. I'll definitely be adding sound deadener all over. It's amazing how loud it is in the car with the rear seat delete!
Picked up an ATI Super Balancer so the Professional Products unit is coming off and this is going on. Got a great deal on it!
Some cosmetic things I want to do yet are 5% tint all around, little bit of body work, and dip. I still need to clean up the one fog light wiring and fasten the bumper cover/air dam back on the car.
Also considering pulling all the nitrous stuff off the car. We'll see. My main goal is just to have the car up and running, reliable, and roadworthy. May not make the spring OCMD cruise with it, but as long as I can enjoy the car and put at least 1k miles on it this year, it'll be worthwhile.
Think I'll have the shop take care of all existing mechanical and electrical gremlins, or most of them at least.
Some of them include:
- Headlights no longer work with the switch. Worked fine when parked.
- 2 of the 3 Glowshift gauges are not working and just blinking at me. May swap out for Autometers eventually. Really annoying.
- Verify switch panel switches working properly and mount to the center console
- TUNE
- Wheel alignment
- Check pinion angle and adjust as needed
- Replace balancer
- Need to do something about the overlays. The one I have looks like total garbage and I don't remember offhand, but pretty sure one or more of the gauges are not working properly.
Cmon... u can have it ready for ocmd.

I'm not sure if I'm going to spring OCMD, yet. Having the car ready will likely change that lol.
Man... after last years spring cruise... i have high hopes for the event if the weather holds out like it did last year, although I know the cops will be a force to rekon with.
Odds are we will take the Imp, to fly under the radar.

I'm not afraid of the cops, they are there to do a job and make sure less Mustangs fly through center dividers. Haha! Last year was an absolute blast. Our GTG is worth the trip alone.
Im glad u enjoy our gtg. Last years gtg rolled into a group cruise was AWESOME.
On the cop topic... i just know some new ordinances have been put in place... so i think they will be a bit more of a headache.

Update... shipping the car out either later this week or early next! That means my ass needs to be in gear and finish up some odds and ends, throw it on the charger, and start packing it up THIS WEEK.
Shipping it out where?

DiabloFormula Racing outside of Lancaster. He is actually one of the few LT1 tuners in the area, but also specializes in LSX. I've been following his work for many years and decided to reach out after being burned. I reached out to several shops and this is the only one where he actually acted excited about working on it. Even gave me troubleshooting pointers over FB Messenger with it. He's also doing the tune in the 5th gen.
Car was taken to the shop on Sunday. Went there yesterday and spent a couple hours going over it with the shop owner. Very happy with my decision...let the games begin!
Awesome man. Please keep us posted...

No fun updates yet. But I did pick up this today. Chromoly 6pt bolt in Wolfe with swing outs.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...a52c2511bf.jpg
The girlfriend will love it in the living room haha.

Well, here are some "fun" updates. DFR has been working on the car. They confirmed that the hard start was not all in my head. I ended up reaching out to BP Automotive to get a base tune for the pcm that I purchased from Bill. He got back to me and sent it over.
The suspicion was then pointing towards a possible wiring issue. Then, the plugs on the driver side were pulled and smelled like 100 year old gas!
Cool, game plan was to siphon the tank and add fresh fuel and maybe even throw in some stabil. And of course keep changing plugs.
Well, cyl 4 was loaded up with coolant. Yep.
So now the head is coming off to check for a head gasket issue (hoping it's just that), bent rod, warped head, cracks, etc.
All I'm saying is I have a 5.3 sitting on a stand that doesn't owe me anything. I'm sick of throwing money at this car but it's too sentimental to part it out. Too many good parts installed on this thing as well (built trans, ds, rear, etc).
So now we wait and see what happens. I'd love to see how this setup performs, but at this point, I just want a reliable car that makes popcorn noises and hurts feelings. I really miss driving an fbody as well. The 355 wasn't going to be a monster by any means. Oh well, just my Damn luck.
Hey kids- don't allow drug-induced mechanics wrench on your car no matter how much you trust them.
Good to hear that you have a start on finding out what's going on. I will look forward to hearing what you find. Leave the 5.3 for a future build on something that would not be disgraced to have the swap done.
