Call Lunati or Crower and they will not recommend using the non link bar cheaper lifters. FYI
Go on YB and ask what people are running, you will be severely guilted into fancy parts.

Here's the middle ground between a cheapo lifter and an entry race Morel.

It's what they're using in this thing... https://www.chevrolet.com/performance/copo-camaro.html
$430 isn't horrible. Still .700" wheel but apparently the covered wheel makes them more rigid compared to the .750" wheel fork body. I also think this would mean less wear on the bottom of the lifter bores. If they're using them in a factory drag car then they must take some serious shit. The cam specs on the COPO make mine look lazy.
BTR was gonna be my other choice, but went with crower just off their history.
The added height of the linkbars is the only thing holding me back. They look really nice though.
Got some LPP headers for $440. Gotta sell my current setup now to recoup.
I emailed Karl Ellwein. Apparently the cheap Crowers aren't manufactured by them. The big selling point from what he told me is that Crower rejects 50% of the lifters they receive after leakdown testing. Sounds like cheap crap so cross those off the list. Country of origin is unknown.
The Lunatis are street series Morels. The biggest problem with them is the link bar pins tend to pop out but that's not something I have to worry about. My lobes aren't that aggressive so with the right springs they might survive.
Haven't heard back from Howard's yet.
The BTRs (which are no longer around) are nearly identical to the Johnson SLR lifters. The only difference is the leakdown testing and matching of the Johnson set for $200+ more. If I could score some new BTRs through the classifieds I wouldn't be opposed to running them. I spotted some a while back.
Pretty impressed with the quality of these LPPs. I had a set of OBX headers a while back and the welds weren't as nice and the stainless wasn't 321. Could do without the merge collectors though. Seems to be a ton of debate about the advantages/disadvantages but I doubt it will hurt.
More pics of the comforter.
Jk. Headers look good !
I've been talking with the builder who will be putting together my shortblock. I'll cue everyone in on who it is when plans are finalized tomorrow. I'm excited!!!!!!!!
My pile should be on the road in time for OCMD.
I've been drooling over those lifters for a while. I'll probably pull the trigger on them pretty soon because those BTRs are so hard to find.
Dropping my parts off with Karl Ellwein tomorrow. IT'S ON!!!!!!!!!!
