started it and logged it last night, map value was back to 72-74kpa, so that's a good sign. today plug wires and undecided on changing coils, plus lash

what a shit show. where do I start....
Saturday decided to make new plug wires and put ls coils on. well ls coils harnesses i purchased were wired wrong out of the box. installed and blew injector 1 fuse. repinned and still blew a fuse. put 581 coils back on.
I had purchased taylor 8mm Spiro pro plug wire/terminals as I make my own. well did not know taylor was bought out by pertronix, and is no longer US made. in my hesitation I only made driver side and put them on, more on that later.
then went to lash valvetrain. found a few a little looser than I like, relashed. passenger side 2 of the intake rocker studs backed out when loosening the poly lock, so had to reseal those.
start car map value shit again. drove it and it felt okay-ish. figured we go to the track and see what happens.
Sunday track car seemed ok besides map value. first pass on motor felt lazy on the leave again but went 11.50 at 121mph. 60ft wash shit.
2nd pass decide to spray it, well sitting in the line I heard a single exhaust backfire and didnt think it was me because the car behind me and infront were fender exit headers. spun like hell had to pedal.
3rd pass played with suspension settings seeing as the car was not separating. guess what came back? that exhaust backfire. made the pass (I'm only running out to the eighth) and went back to the pits and changed the plug wires back to my old ones.
4th pass got it to leave better and went a 6.48 eighth with a 25-100% ramp over 1 second. 60ft was 1.46
last pass 35-100% over 0.8 netted me a 1.42 60ft with a 6.45.

Just need to find the magic for the 1.2x 60’s. What do you think the issue was with the suspension? I don’t think the sway bar mounts slipping on the axle tubes would do that kind of damage.
now the opposite problem is the ride height is too low. I'm gonna raise the rear a little and lower the front to try to induce antiquat. also with the coilovers now its 1.5" lower. that last pass i had the compression at 10 front, 10 rear and 1 rebound rear. that was its best launch if the dayQuote:

but I think we have a culprit to the oil leak issue. I compression tested the driver side since that looked shittiest plug wise, compression was:
Cyl 1: 180
Cyl 3: 180
Cyl 5: 179
Cyl 7: 185
in the intake i found oil around a few intake ports. back to the drawing board on new intake gaskets AGAIN ugh. gotta find .120 thick sbc pattern that fit well.
she does sound good though when she's on kill, even running on 7ish cylinders in the first 3 passes.

Thanks for sharing the videos and updates. I just got back from a 9 day vacation. Went to Talladega for the Spring races.
Just a thought on the oil issue. Do any of your rocker studs protrude into the intake ports requiring sealant on the threads to keep oil from getting sucked in?

In post #1043 you mentioned a couple of rocker studs loose when you backed off the rocker nuts. Seems something is real wrong with that. Could be they need some sealant and be torqued down tight?

so Saturday after going and grabbing nitrous, I took the car for a ride with Kat videoing me driving away. clearly blue smoke out of exhaust. said f this and yanked the intake. every runner except 2-4 and 1 was oil coated. swapped gaskets to felpro .120 thick fastburn intake gaskets. that seemed to help the intake fit better on the heads.
hoping to start it tonight and not have any issues. I also bought 28-10.5 mickey thompson pro bracket radials to try out.

had issues, oil still in chambers bad. ended up having a family emergency today and looked further. found the intake valve seals off the guides. quick call to my machinist who had a set of seals in stock, swapped driver side out, just got done gonna eat dinner pray and fire it off

not a good day. car was .19 slower on motor on first pass. OK could be bad air. next pass sprayed it with the same ramp/jets as last time we were at track (that went 6.4x last time) went 6.62 and 10.28 at 135. on way back to pits car just died idling. restarted right away. parked and was idling it again and it just died again, so I assumed something with fuel pump because the wideband went super lean like the fuel pump shut off.
cut out the factory fp relay since I have racetronix hotwire. all seemed ok, went up for next pass and car left better, had nitrous on 100% no delay didnt spin but bogged, then was lazy all the way down the track, ie was quicker 60ft but everything else was way off, so I dont know what the hell is going on and im burnt out and frustrated. it ran the best burning oil and fouling plugs with oil a few weeks ago. now it slows down over half a second.

still doesnt explain the random stalling where bank 1 goes super lean and bank 2 is fine. fuel lines are b2 supply front crossover to b1 then regulator. map value spikes to 100kpa too right before it dies, but that seems to be in response to it going lean.

really at a loss here as to what is going on. literally from 1 pass to the next, tune identical, car slows down 8mph/.5 of a sec and b1 is lean the whole time.
plugs look great. filter clear. b1 injectors all look fine/ohm fine/changed screens all are clear.
maybe spark is dropping out? maybe pump strainer is plugged up? maybe pump dropping out? really not making sense to me at all.

That plug doesn't have any color at all, like no fuel. Didn't you just change the fuel pressure regulator, do you have good fuel pressure? Mine had a high rpm lean out when my pump wasn't keeping up. The lean out caused it to pop pop on the big end though. Are you getting a lean pop at high revs?
those plugs are all from b1 after that pass. I know there wasn't even soot on it, so unsure if a) spark dropped and fuel washed it, or b) fuel dropped. bank 2 looks fine. no popping no weirdness besides just feeling LAZY and slow. the datalog where the wideband goes back rich then lean again, is consistent with where it felt like it pulled then layed over then pulled then layed over.Quote:

im gonna pull the pump this weekend to check the strainer. car had 10 gallons in it before my first pass and gauge is about half a tank now
