I can get an Ak but the price tag for them is close enough to just build an AR. For something that I wouldn't shoot that often, the SKS seemed to be a cheap way to get into larger rifle stuff.

Yea the ak's are getting ridiculous in price. You can get a dpms oracle for around $500. The cheapest ak I've seen is the same price or more. I've had several SKS. They are good shooting rifles but unless you can get one for under $300 you're overpaying for what it is
I just bought the DPMS Oracle today. Well see how it shoots this weekend

Did le black friday at a gun store close by.

Going on the AK Snackbar to take the place of the $20 red dot that's on there now.
Boought a few boxes of 00 and three boxes of .40 since it was $12/50rd which is comparable to reload pricing. They wanted to sell me a damn case
Finally picked up my DPMS AR-15 Oracle. Seems like a really nice gun for the $$. Got the gun, hardcase and couple boxes of .223 for $502 out the door.

Then stopped at gander mountain and got a $30 red dot just to have something to use.

Anyone bought a 80% lower and finished it at home? For less than a 100 thats a worthy experiment at work on the mill
Well im certainly not someone to talk a guy out of a hands on project. I built an ak underfolder back when i first got my license in 2003. Had 200 bucks in it, later gave it to my brother in law in exchange for mowing my grass for a year, then they skyrocketed to over 1k.... anyway, I could see in new jersey where there is money to save going that route.
I have not really looked yet, but I assume you can piece together a lower and upper out of milspec surplus stuff or similar for decently cheap pricing?
Just something to plink with and certainly not trying to build a battle rifle.

Check out this shop. Anything you need. [emoji6]
Eh not sure. The market is flooded with so many brands of parts kits. Delton makes a pretty decent one for 450 bucks, minus receiver. Not sure what it would take to come up with enough parts to make a complete one. If you could find everything in one place and avoid 13 different shipping costs you might make it
Check out palmetto state armory, they have some great prices and some of their stuff is great quality. stay away from the ptac and freedom lines and you can build a quality AR pretty cheap. another good place is MAS defense. I will warn you that building AR's is quite addicting. also checkout tactical machining for 80% lowers.

Like I said, it gets addicting! have fun!
So I can make a AK47 round AR variant?

And then lower?
http://www.spikestactical.com/lower-...de-p-1315.html
Then a stock and mags?
I like palmetto, but you can do better. I have not been overly impressed with their stuff, but its nice.
I would recommend JSE surplus.
I would also get a wilson barreled upper.(dunno if it avail in 7.62x54) Its the same barrels used on Rock river arms that guarantee 3/4 moa. You can have them build it test fire ect.
The Russian 7.62 wont be a fun plinkster for a newb like the 22 cals. The AR platform is light and increases felt recoil.
I would totally do an 80 percent lower, its nobody's business what you build, itd be fun and cost effective. Transfers in my area ar $55+ most want 70-100.
I don't need 3/4 MOA, its NJ, no long range shooting here.
True but knowing its accurate shows its quality.
The other thing to think about is reliability and the ammo you will feed it. Alot of the cheap 7.62x39 is steel case. I have had no problem in my weapons from it in any platform other than stiff bolt lift, but alot of AR internet jockeys seem to have problems.
Just something to think about as far as cost and feeding it.
I think itd be a fun gun.
A cheap constructed gun that shoots cheap 7.62 stuff would suit my needs, at the moment I can shoot it at a whooping 25yds sooooo bar ain't set that high
I would stick with 5.56,223. Steel cased ammo is on par with 7.62x39. Plus mags are cheaper, available and more reliable than 7.62x39 ar mags.
Or go 300BLK. thats a fun round.

Thoughts on that lower?
http://androcorpind.com/index.php?ro...&product_id=75
These are better. Never liked the way dpms lower parts kits fit. Plus they are not mil spec.
Sweet! Didn't even see lower kits on that site when I looked before.
Yea but they won't fit in an ar15 lower. You can get p mags for 10 bucks and there brand new.
I get the D&H mags from PSA for $6.99 ea and they work great in all my AR's. 5.56, 300blk and 223 wilde. I like em better than P mags.
The cmmg are probably best bang for you buck for lpks.
Nobody cares about "mil spec" anyway, i sure dont. For example i would much rather run a timney trigger than any garbage squishy grinding Dont know when the shot will go off "milsepc" trigger.
IMO any quality receiver will fit %99 of parts kits very well. Cheaper receivers have more tolerance than a well built one.
Stay away from cheaper than dirt, they are anti gun anti 2nd amendment. They suspended sales during the great sandy hook debacle gun rush "for respect of the victims" then they jacked their prices when they were the few to have any inventory.
