Is there any vacuum ports or anything that I will have to cap off?
The air intake has a thing on it where the air pump connects to
Hey bb
Since you have a 96, it is possible the "AIR pump recall" was done. That involves a vacuum line from the intake manifold. Shoebox has a diagram of the recall setup on his website. 96 exhaust manifolds should require a 19mm plug in the holes for the AIR pipe. Should be able to find a 19mm oil drain plug that fits. The stock nipple for the AIR pump inlet hose on the air intake duct can be capped with a 5/8" vacuum cap.
For EGR, at a minimum you have to put a blanking plate over the hole in the back of the intake manifold for the EGR valve, and another on the stock exhaust manifold #8 primary. Capping the hole for the corrugated EGR riser tube in the back of the intake is technically not required, but I would get (or make) the three plate set. There is a vacuum line from a nipple on the driver side of the intake to the EGR vacuum solenoid back near the valve. Remove the vacuum line and cap the nipple on the intake.
If you are getting headers and no cats, just unplug the after-cat O2 sensors and leave them until you remove the existing exhaust.
I personally would not defeat or remove EVAP on a street car. The back of the car will smell from the fuel vapor that vents from the tank. To remove it, delete the purge solenoid on the passenger side of the intake manifold. Take the vacuum line from the nipple on the throttle body that runs to the solenoid, vacuum cap on the TB nipple. Unhook the purge line from the solenoid, remove the line back to the hairpin shaped metal tube that runs under the throttle body, remove the metal tube, disconnecting it from the nylon purge line in the three line fuel bundle. To remove the purge line you either cut it off behind the fender liner, or remove it from the hard line under the car, behind the rocker panel near the front of the driver door.
In the back, release the canister by releasing the plastic band clamp that wraps around the canister. There are two or three lines that attach to the canister, unhook them and leave them. I put a nylon sleeve over the line that vent from the tank, to allow the vent to flow out, and prevent critters like spiders from crawling in. When I have a few gallons of C16 in the tank, the fumes that vent give a nice buzz :) .
If you get a code for the missing solenoid, just push a 1,000 ohm resistor into the harness connector.
Thanks @Injuneer just what I needed! Is any of these modifications not allowed for NHRA street stock rules? I don't recall there anything about emissions equipment.
Don't know about that.
