i had a 3600 vigilante behind a cc503 before and it was specked by precision industries for the cam, gears weight ect. and the expectation to be driving it on the road. but ill be using a 3.90 gear and my chassis with motor should be crossing the scales at 2700 lbs without me in it. but my understanding is you want your motor to stay in the upper power range of the cam. and this will be primarily a track car...
Dustin (dangerous95lt1) runs a 4k stall on a cc306 and is 7.17@98 with a 1.53 60'. It works pretty good on his setup
I just spoke to Mike @ Protorque about your combination. I deal with protorque because just about every record holding car out there has a protorque converter in it. I gave Mike all your specs and he suggested a 3000-35000 stall 10". with your combination it will actually stall less than 3000, though. I did mention that people were suggesting a 4000 stall for your combination and he laughed hysterically. If you would like to talk to Mike and confirm, the number is 631-218-8700. If anyone questions Protorques knowledge, my question is, does Yank, Vigilante, Edge, TCI, or anyone else have converters in 5 second world championship/record setting pro mods? The only thing I'm saying is don't fall into the 'bigger is better" theory. and please don't take advice from a guy with a "4000 stall" that's actually only stalling 2500...

This is a 3200 stall Protorque in a 4200# car. It cuts 1.39 60 ft. times, on a footbrake with one of my 4L60Es.

With a stock 95,000 mile bottom end, CC305, and a set of locally ported, stock valve heads, I went 12.0 @ 112 MPH. The car went 12.82 @ 106 MPH as a "bolt on" car that still had exhaust manifolds on it. That was with a 2500 stall 12" protorque. The car slowed down when I went to the 3200 stall behind the stock motor.

If you want good advice for a converter, you go to the guys who hold all the records. I build the transmissions. I call Protorque for each particular vehicle we need a converter for and let THEM tell me what stall we need. I called Protorque on behalf of the O/P to get a specific recommendation based on his set up. I just can't figure out what posses people to argue with the guys who have proven to build the best converters out there. I'm relaying their information. Do you guys go on other forums and argue with Proline and tell them they don't know what they're talking about?...LOL. I hesitated before even answering this post because I knew what it would turn into. A bunch of guys with the wrong combinations who want to convince everybody they're right. But, still...I felt I should help the O/P and get him the correct info.

my original thought was a 36-3800 as the 3600 9.5inch i had behind a cc503 last time and it felt like it could use more converter. but what is the advantage to me using a 10 inch converter over a 9.5 or smaller? this car will not see any street driving, just wot pulls down the 1320, im not arguing just curious.
10" converter is a little cheaper, and 3700 is the max stall for that size core. A smaller diameter converter will USUALLY be more efficient on the top end, which means they will MPH better. There are exceptions to this, though. Cheaply built 9.5" converters will still be slipping on the top end. Edge converters are notorious for that. I still think 3600 is a little much, but with your combination, it will most likely not see a true 3600 stall. It also has alot to do with the converter builder.Quote:
