I'm sure it will work out. He sounds like a stand up dude from what you told me before.
On a side note J&W Engine Service did my block work and did a jam up job. I would keep them in mind if you need to get any machine work done. They are very reputable and they do great work. I've got their price sheet from last year I'll send you.

Looking like I might be SOL here. The guy is only going to cover a hone/cam bearings if it needs it.
If it's anymore than that he wants me to just ship it back and he's going to refund me.
It's great that he's willing to do that but then I'll be out a motor. the money I paid for that will barely cover a rotating assembly, certainly wont cover that plus work to a block. Which means my build will be done for a while.
You might think i'm crazy but you could use a 2 bolt block but use ARP studs. I've been runnin mine on nitrous, turbos, and superchargers for 4 years I think now with a 2 bolt block. Studs would be a cheap alternative for a while.
I refuse haha.. the thing is, I want to do this block once and only once so I can save up for a 383 down the road.
This is just a shitty situation that I don't see turning out in my favor but we'll see I suppose.

To tell you the truth, I cant believe he is offering to refund your money. I thought from the sounds of it he sold you a junk motor on purpose, but sounds like hes a stand up guy for the most part.

i know what your going though i just pulled apart my 383 and found that the main and rod berrings are torn up really bad deep into the copper, and the cam berrings are shot, along with some cyl's that need a good hone and this motor isnt suposed to have much time on it at all. its kinda cool what the guy is doing for you though i called the guy i got mine from an he said dont worry about it, it will be fine jus go ahead and drop it in it will run... yea right for how long. good luck though hope it all works out in ur favor.
Yea you're pretty much in the same boat.. my seller says his ran perfectly fine before he took it out and had no blowby or anything, but if you look at those pics, those scores are pretty deep in the cylinder walls.Quote:

My buddy got tied up today so the motor should be dropped off at the machine shop tomorrow morning and we'll see what they say.
WELL... so far so good.
Motor made it to the machine shop this morning.
From initial inspection, the guy THINKS he can take out 80-90% of the scratches in the cylinder walls with a hone.
He also wants to replace the cam bearings.
There was another problem with the crank snout where something ate it up a bit and he may have to turn the snout and build the material back up in order for the balancer to fit correctly.
The full inspection should be done by Monday so hopefully I will find out then. The only good thing about this is, I get back on wednesday so this gives me more time to help put everything together on the car so I don't feel like I didn't even get to be there or do anything :D.
But yea, emailed the seller and I think he'll take this as good news. The machine shop said with the quality of parts and work in the motor that he thinks it is worth saving this one because it would be way expensive to duplicate it.
He also said the motor must've been run pig rich for that much carbon to build up in that few miles lol.
HOPEFULLY this all turns out with a hone and such and I can be on my way... then 1-2 weeks til this bitch is together.
