You will need the OBD2 port with the serial port, or if not it has a USB from CARPUTING for LT1edit software.

Does this have obd2 software on it ?

I didn't know lt1 edit made software for obd2 cars. Your 100% sure it will work with 96/97 cars ?

Yes... its what we used for my car before i converted to obd1. Go to carputing's site.
