i know some of you guys detail for a living, and im about to get a job detailling and the guy wants me to come in tomorrow and pratice on my own car. i dont wanna look like i know nothing. anyone have any tips? ill be buffing my car for him tomorrow. thanks guys.
Buffing? Piece of cake. 1 piece of advice I can give for buffing is don't put your weight into the buffer. Let the machins weight do the work and slowly go abck and forth on the area you're buffing. Also be careful on curves and bends in the metal. If you catch the edge of the buffer in those areas you can easliy cause burrs in the paint. It's pretty easy and you'll get the hang of it in no time.
i dont do it for a living but only thing i can really say to help you is just pay attention to detail. thats what its all about, the little things.
My suggestion since it will be your first time buffing would be to use a foam pad until you get the hang of it. Wool pads are more agressive and build heat much faster. It's better to spend 3x the time with a foam pad then burning your paint with a wool pad. Keep in mind you can burn with foam, but it's more difficult. Once you get good with foam then move to wool and your productivity will increase.

What kind of buffer are you going to be using?
Just remember to pay attention to the details and leave nothing behind. Dont miss any spots and it doesnt hurt to use more than 1 coat of something. I did a black C6 Z06 last summer and put 4 coats of polish on it. Why? Because it looked sick when I was done with it, I used it for advertising, and the guy now wants me to come back and do his C6 Z again as well as his GTR in about a month.

ok i went and it was too busy so ill be going monday or tuesday. i have a few really dumb questions. ive been detailing my car forever but i just wanna know certain things like the best way to apply the wax to the car, how much to use, the best way to use the buffer, etc. wwith my car i always just threw wax all over the place and buffed the piss out out it with a shitty buffer.
I clay barred and waxed my car yesterday. Looked good as hell till it was under the lights in a parkinglot last night, then you could see streaks. I got into too much of a hurry with the wax and it streaked up. :(
