So yesterday I noticed my fuel pump hissing while the car is running,could hear it over the exhaust..So I give it like a 4k rev and the car backfires and dies..Now i can't get it to start,it just turns over,but it'll pop a few times so I know its getting spark..I checked my fuel pressure and its at 40psi..So I'm stumped..
Try filling the tank full. I'll bet the hose that connects the pump to the pickup tube has a hole in it
Ill give that a try,but wouldn't that affect the fuel pressure?
Yea but koeo should be 43-44. Air will compress too. If the fuel level in the tank is right at the hole in the line then it's sucking in fuel and air. Just throw 5 gallons in and see what happens.

Well its filled up to 3/4 tank and still the same thing..I can't see it being the opti or anything since I know its getting spark when it pops and plus everythings new,this engine got put together in April..Was running perfect,heard that hissing from the fp,revved it,died and now won't start..
Did you loctite the rotor screws? if not the rotor could be out of phase causing it to fire at the wrong time. if that is the case thats why it pops and wont start. at 40 psi fuel pressure it should start.
No I didn't have the right socket to open the opti up and I was like ohh it should be ok..Regretting that now though..Its rediculous thats even something to worry about,they should be good to go out of the box,especially for how much they cost.And changing one out is oh so fun lol
So can I just buy an MSD cap and rotor to fix this? Or will I need a whole new Opti?
Does the fuel pump continue to run or does it run then shut off when it gets up to 40 lbs.
