ok so when i drive my car and i hit about 3k my car like hesitates the best way i can describe it feels like someone who cant drive stick its all jerky and what not. the car is a 96 t/a a4. my ses light is on i had it scanned and it say TPS but would that cause this? also it does not do this in park or neutral
What was the code exactly and were there any others?? The computer uses the TPS to help figure out the fueling, so if there's a dead spot in the TPS while you're under load it could easily cause some issues.
^like fastbird said where there any more codes? if thats the only code then either clean it or just replace it. It does seem like a tps symptom so it just might be it.

Ok i know this is an old post, but on steps 1 and 2 I got a yes. I already have a new sensor so would it be the connector? How could that be if its getting the right volts when 474 and 417 are tested? Lastly how do I check if a sensor is good or bad?
You need to use a scope or something like a Fluke meter and do a sweep test and insure that there are no drops in the voltage. I will attach a picture from my phone. Basically all a tps sensor is, is a potentiameter and if there are dead spots in the unit it will drop out and cause a low reading. You need a meter that can graph out the flow of voltage.
