This might sound dumb but does anybody know how to remove the impeller and shaft out of the pump housing? I'm thinking about making a wall clock out of my old water pump I just took off but dont have a clue how to get the assembly out.

About 1/3 of the way down is where he starts to talk about the dis-assembly I believe.

Okay so it looks like maybe I can pop the impeller off and then drive the shaft out the back then. I tried to drive the splined side towards the front and it didnt budge.
Thanks for the link to that write up. Good info in that. I ended up having bad luck punching out the old impeller. My dad ended up welding the back together. I'm going to make sure the pump works before installing it and checking for leaks in the housing. Attachment 28642Attachment 28643 I'm hoping it works. I also deleted the water pump drive shaft. I wailed on my driveshaft for a while and it didn't budge. I didn't have a press at the time so I came up with a way to get it out with a big bench vise. Take a small metal object a little bit smaller in diameter than the driveshaft and hold it in the center on the impeller side (I think a small socket could work). Then take a larger socket that will fit over the water pump drive in the back and position it so it's only contacting the aluminum housing (kinda tricky because of shape). Then just crank down the vise and the shaft gets pressed out.
that would.be a cool clock.
