Jet DST (OBD2) question

For those of you with OBD2 tuning software, I'm planning on purchasing the Jet DST to tune my 97 with. And before some of you suggest it, swapping to OBD1 is not an option, I'm in an emissions county. Anyway, since my tuning options are limited, Jet DST sounds like my best bet. However, I've read conflicting information whether or not it comes with a data logger. Can anyone confirm this? And if a separate one is needed, can you suggest one? I'm not quite ready to go full blown tuner on this car, but I'd like to poke around and change a couple things, particularly the annoying SES codes I have.

I've got one I bought thinking id use it in my socketing business but I've only fixed one so far and I used his cable. Then I thought id see if I could replicate it and sell at a lower cost being that they are so expensive. I had my electronics guy disassemble it and there's a (obviously) proprietary microprocessor in it that's he's afraid he won't be able to duplicate it so he stopped there. Nothing was desoldered or removed. It has never been used and still has 4 credits on it. If you haven't bought one yet I'd sell it for $200. I will open the program up now and see what I can find with data logging capability and report back.

I live in an emission state as well. I have an Obd2 computer with a passable but.less powerful tune for that.

That was a thought popo, but unfortunately the problem is that the OBD2 tune I have now won't pass smog, because of the codes I have on it. I've tried for a long time to get Moe to come back to Houston and take a look at it, but we both have busy schedules. So right now I just want to say fuck it and get it done myself.

firebird_1995, I'm understanding that all you basically did was crack open the case and have a look, correct? $200 sounds a heck of a lot better than $500.

What are the codes? Maybe they are things that can be turned off.. or addressed via mail?

P0443 (EVAP purge solenoid circuit) and P1657 (CAGS). At this point, I'm honestly fed up with mail orders, since these problems started when I let PCM For Less screw it up a few years ago. I've been putting this off for too long, and just want it done. Getting into tuning it myself would be a happy bonus.

moe could not turn off my evap solenoid one... so I put it back on.. plugged in the electical connection.. but left it un hooked grom EVAPn... prob solved.

You should be able to eliminate both those codes with a resistor. People have been defeating the skip shift (CAGS) code with a 2Kohm resistor since 1994. The diagnostic just looks at the voltage on the circuit. As long as the PCM does not see battery voltage when the solenoid is supposed to be powered (open circuit), nor 0V when the circuit is not supposed to be powered (short circuit), it won't set the codes.

Same idea.. just used the solenoid as the "resistor" lol... the comp thinks its functioning.

You are correct sir. Its a very well built piece actually. Aluminum body that screws together. There is a sticker with the model info on it that covers the seam between the two halves of the case. I had to cut that sticker at the seam, but aside from that, its untouched.
