I bought a 95 T/A a couple days ago that has developed an overheating problem. I'm stumped. Its modded and tuned. The fans kick on at 180°, I put a 180° thermostat in it. It will run a constant 180 for a long time and then all of the sudden the temp will shoot up to 240 and the radiator will boil over back through the reservoir. I also changed the cap. Could the radiator possibly be bad?
The fans are fighting the t'stat. A 180 only starts to open at 180. It isn't fully open until about 200. The fans are set for a 160 t'stat. The 180 is basically staying closed.
Make sure the air dam underneath the car is on. Aside from that, bleed the system and readjust the fans or put a 160° stat in it and see what happens
If it's boiling, it's probably not holding pressure. See if you can find someone with a pressure tester and put it to the system and see if it's holding pressure or not.
