My 4l60e is finally crying for mercy and I have a 4l80e but the cost is just too much right now.
I have a turbo 400 with a tci nitrous converter laying in the shop my question is there any guys runnin turbo 400 on the street and how do u guys like it. Car is not my dd but sees at least 150 miles per weekend

A 400 is defintely a strong transmission. Here are some things to consider about doing a swap. You will need a body mount torque arm, a new driveshaft, and crossmember. It's VERY expensive to set the speedometer up to work also. The electronic exciter ring and sensor are available but they're not cheap. Other things to consider... The Th400 has a 2.48 first gear ratio compared to the 3.06 of the 4L60E. This means the car won't launch as hard. You will also lose overdrive, and lock up which means it will eat alot more fuel. The car will also make a few less RWHP with a 400 because of more parasitic internal drag. The 400 was once a great swap option, but with todays technology and parts, the 4L60E can be built to take an F-Body into the low 9's reliably. We have done quite a few 400 swaps throughout the years as well as swapping 400s back to 4L60Es.

Already have the torque arm and my machine shop does driveshafts im just tired of 4l60es not handling 1 or 2 years of use

when we did run on the street the only down side was the rpm at hwy speeds. (we run a 3.50 gear) as for not having a 3.05 first gear. imo it better especially with a car the makes power because it helps kill some trq off.

Solution (unfortunately an expensive solution) to the 3 speed/no O/D problem with the TH400:
how much was the gv? I'm ether going gv or 80e. do you have pics how it fits? was there any problem with install
