So I am looking to build the TH400 I have had sitting around the parts room for the Z. Brett (SUBARUPOWERTIME) has a couple connections locally regarding transmissions, and they recommended Turbo Action valve bodies and Hipsters trans brakes. What is the best you guys have found for your set-ups?
I will be running a TB, forward pattern manual valve body.
Shoot I can't recall what body is in mine but you want a griner brake:) who's building it ridings?
Probably Rosso, or there is another guy at Macomb that Brett has known for years with a 9-second GN. He recommends Hispters TBs... I am just curious what everyone is using since I will be piecing together my TH400 here shortly. I haven't had luck with Ridings. Years back, he was supposed to set up a 3.73 in my 10-bolt (back before the turbo set-up), and he never showed up to do it. It sucks, because I hear he does gret work but he is notorious for not showing up, and not returning your phonecalls for two to three months. I have given up on Ridings entirely.
No better transbrake made than Hipster. They also make a very nice standard pattern manual valve body that many of my customers like because they can use their preexisting shifter.

Thanks for the suggestions, Frank. I see Hispter's TBs are available on Jeg's site, but I don't see any of their valve bodies listed. I have a Hurst Pistol Grip Quarter Stick 2 for the car right now...

Call them and order direct. The standard pattern 400 manual isn't listed on their page either. I order them direct though.

If you have never driven a th400 with a brake. Remember to never shift into neutral at speed unless it has a clean neutral. Pro brake valve body's you have to use the tb for reverse. I alway use neutral for backing. I have heard you can damage the trans by putting it in reverse and engaging the tb. Also don't use low gear for burn outs. Roll through the water. Put it in 2nd. Smack the throttle to get them spinning then put it in high as soon as the rpms come up to were to want to do you burn out at.

If you want the best 400 period in the country, call my friend Dave @ http://proformanceracingtransmissions.com/site/ tell him Jim Packard sent you. His stuff is second to none and in the fastest cars out there. Do a little research on him online or on the bullet. Research his tb's and 400's
Thanks for all the tips and suggestions guys, I appreciate it. I will take a look at Proformance Racing... I've had my friend shift into neutral once, overrevved the engine, frothed the oil, and the car shut down. He didn't realize that he had the car in second, starting out, and shifted into neutral thinking it was third.
I am new to the how manual VB, TB, TH400 thing... I'm only familiar with T-56s and 4Ls... but I know that I need to put a reliable trans behind this car.
The neutral at speed will cause some of the internals to try and spin at 2x the drive shaft speed. I say try because they normally explode.
