Probably the stupidest question I will ever ask. Hypothetical idea

I've been thinking. I really like the the roots supercharger on the LT1 that Cornel did. Personally I think that is the coolest look in the world. I also know that buying a kit for one will never happen. Now here comes the stupid question.

Why not have a set of SBC heads converted for reverse cooling, then mount a low profile supercharger on top of it? I feel that would be much cheaper than having a custom intake made for a whipple to attach to.

Obviously this idea has probably been proposed before, as I know its too good of an idea to not be discussed.

I like your thinking, but I think the big factor you don't see many roots blower builds on the F-Body's is because of simple hood clearance. There's just not a lot of room to work with, especially with how far under the cowl the engine sits.

Could probably work on Impalas and LT1 swaps. Have to sort out bracket and pulleys.

We have a couple members that have done roots style blowers on lt1s. one has an impala that is now a TT set up.

Nothing looks better than a roots style. I was wanting something a little more straight forward than milling out a lower intake for it.

Fastbird hit the nail on the head. Its not so much the hood clearance that will get you so much as the cowl. When I looked at putting the side mount on my dads camaro, what I found was I would have to relocate it forward about 6 inches to get out from underneath it. By that time you are too far forward to get a compact drive belt in. What WOULD work is a twin M90 setup like pocket did on 3rd gen. Because the housings are not as long, you could get them in front of the cowl and still have room for a drive belt assembly.

mmmm pocket's build. i remember watching taht when i had a iroc. im pretty sure you could clearance the cowl enough to not make it too noticeable though

Lol. His build(s) were the inspiration for mine. Very nice guy, very willing to help and share info. I didn't think about cutting the cowl, that might work...

what if you trimmed the cowl? depending on how important wipers are to you there is really n reason NOT to cut it, is there? how much room could be gained by trimming it like people do to run a carb'd setup?

sounds like a lot of wasted money, I highly doubt your bottom end is already built for boost so why not just get a standard small block and build it?
