Folks with ported heads....QUESTION

So we're putting my new top end together. AI 200CC heads and ported intake manifold/58tb on stock shortblock.

My question is this. When we placed the intake gaskets, they hung over the (enlarged) intake ports on the heads. Maybe 1/16 to 1/8 inch or so overhang on runners for cylinders 1/3, 5/7, 2/4 and 6/8. Basically the intake ports on the gasket are smaller than the intake ports on the heads. This is with the stock-style Fel-Pro 1284 gasket (not the printaseals, I've heard bad things about them).

Should I try to trim the gaskets or just leave it as-is and not worry about it. I'd hate to leave 10 on the table on account of this silly detail, but if it isn't going to make any difference then I'm not worried about it.

Any experiences/insight? Anyone run into this before?

What intake gaskets are you using? You should be able to find a set that will fit right. Conversely, call AI and see what they recommend.

Look into sbc gaskets like the felpro 1206

I think in the past I have used LT4 gaskets. Since the port is slightly taller they clear the intake runner roof.

I'm using the blue FelPro 1284s. These were supplied with the heads by AI.

Shit, I used the acdelco 12524653. I noticed a little lip, maybe .5 mm, I hope it doesn't really affect anything.

Look at #35 Post on intake gasket dimensions. Take a caliper and measure the ports on the heads height and width then choose the closest gasket. Not like the older sbc engines only a few available for the Lt1-4's if need to trim exacto knife or dremel cutoff wheel.

GM 12367777 LT4 gasket was used can also be used with ported lt1 heads and manifold.

Gasket port dimensions: 1.245" X 2.285". Center divider width 7/32" top width is 15/64" bottom width of gasket ~ 1/4"'

LT4 Port Exit Dimensions: A-2.12" x 1.20"

1284's and trim as needed.

Same here.

I use Air Flow Research intake gasket; part #6860 for my AFR 210 Heads......current cost = $19.

I'd bet a dollar that no trimming will be required.
