Got a offer to teach self defense classes

The what do you do thread came up. And it got me thanking about a offer i got last week.

Ive been going to the K.O. GYM(local fighting gym) for the last 6 months. And have been working out alone. And got aproched by the owner. And he asked what traning I had. And i told him i had 10 years of Kick Boxing and 7 years of Jiu Jitsu traning. And competed in scored competition. But had not done it for almost 9 years.

He told me there starting a self defense class. And offered me a job helping him and his partner teach the class.

I told him i would have to think about it. Since i already had a part time job. Im just torn on if i should do it or not . I am not the nicest teacher. and tend to be very blunt and mean when people mess up.

The classes are mostly made up of women(collage and military wifes)

What do you guys thank? Should i do it? I don't need the income. I work my part time job to get social time as is lol. I got a sugar moma guess you could say. And she don't see the point in me working as is. since i have my side business . And the wife makes awesome money. And already signed a contract. with a family practice. that will start her out at 128,000.00 a year when she graduates in 2 years

Don't do it. Not worth the possibility of getting hurt.

Im not to worried about the contact aspect. its all done on pads and with sparing equipment.

Though i am worried about my back and knee. Im not a spring chicken anymore lol.

My dad has all kinds of back and knee injuries and my sister is starting to catch up to him. I think they would advise against anything that could cause you the same after having gone through the surgeries and lingering pain that they have lol. I don't think it's worth it, you can control what happens to you a lot more when you train alone for your own fitness. Trusting in your pupils to not mess up and injure you on accident is a lot more of a gamble.

My back injury has made me a total puss. I'm afraid of my own farts.

Sounds like you have more reasons not to do it than to do it.

I would say if you enjoy it and all ready go to the gym....might as well get payed for it. I have done similar before. Taught basic level 1 combative and had a blast doing it.

true. but i also like knowing ive helped people to be able to defend themselves.

I taught my wife and some of her friends. and a few other people. And will do the same with my son.

My wife is a nice person. but she can snap a mans wrist before he even knows whats happening now. And that makes me feel better knowing she can when alone.

That's definitely good, I should really do the same and teach my wife some self-defense. Obviously it has its pros and cons and ultimately it is your decision to make. If you enjoy it and feel strongly about it, by all means, go for it. Just be cautious with that knee and back you mentioned. Once you injure them, you can never really get back to 100% even after they've healed. But I'm all for your intentions of teaching people how to defend themselves in a bad situation :cheers:
