CANTON VC users step inside.

I know there have been many threads on what valve covers are better, etc etc...

But I am fond of the look of my CANTONS.....

Here is my question.... how many of you are dealing with leaks from the VCs and how many have fixed or have not had any leaks from them....

And if you are the latter, what gasket or magic trick did you do.....



On a side note, I am running mine on AFR 227 Eliminator heads. Only the passenger side one leaks, and its only above the front two primaries..... it then runs back along them and the heads, then on to the trans and has made a mess of my previously clean under carriage. Im thinking my problem is the perimeter bolt cut outs in the heads (AFR have holes for center and perimeter bolts so there are more choices for VCs)

Did you silicone the gaskets to the valve covers? Use Mr gasket sbc gasket with the rubber sandwiching a piece of metal. You can find them at autozone hanging on the rack by the engine dress up crap. Use the perimeter bolts. That is what I use on my custom valve covers. Torque them down by doing lower front first, then upper back, then upper front followed by lower back. Leave your center bolts in place. Problem with the cantons are uneven tightening of the center bow the valve covers.

The gaskets I used were the blue ones with the metal inside (FELPRO I believe). We tried the ones with no eyelets but we couldnt for the life of us, get them stretched over the VCs... so we used the same ones with the eyelets (little metal plugs towards the corners). They fit nicely, and we thought they were sandwiched well between the heads and the VCs...... it worked great on the driver side.....

I was actually concerned that because the AFRs have the holes in them for perimiter bolts also, that maybe that is where the oil was slipping by.... maybe a dab of RTV in those holes will help?????

i would do it ... worst case in the future you get the other style VC and need the holes just use a pick to clean out the holes

I have Canton covers I use felpro cork with steal in the center I used rtv to glue them to the valve cover and no leaks .

Same here and no issues.

Replied to your top end thread PoPo. Gave you the link to the company's website that sells the carbon fiber covers...the same exact covers and company you're looking at on Ebay.
I love them. They look incredible, fit great, top notch quality. Just use Right Stuff on the valve cover side for the gaskets (get the blue fel-pro PermaDry gaskets and soak them in HOT water for awhile, and stretch them to fit). There've been 2 or 3 others that have bought those covers after me....and all love them IIRC.
