I'm in the process of doing head gaskets and I was just wondering because the steam pipes are extra Crap if I don't need it. I've also heard that you delete the EGR valve that it likes overheat. I'm not a big fan of them because they just soot up the intake.
You need the steam pipes. The Egr is normally removed because it heats up the back of the intake causing the gasket material to fail.
that sucks, kinda what i thought since i searched and found nothing on it. my gasket failed on the drivers rear cylinder so its funny you mention that. But I heard removing makes some lt1s overheat, ever hear of that?Quote:

Removing the pipe won't cause you in itself to overheat. However it can create localized hotspots in the heads due to vapor build up, which can promote detonation. Definitely keep the tube, or make your own.
I got mine on no problems which is funny because I hear so many people having issues, but everything else on the car has been a bitch.
