i noticed guys do that swap, is it a noticeable gain what exactly is the difference?

Weight reduction, easier for the motor to spin it.....

I dont think there is really any gains, besides the weight loss. and I believe a member on here snap his aluminum one.

I have heard of people twisting and snapping the alum driveshafts. And I also read somewhere that the ls1 ds gains 2hp and 5 ft lbs. it was a dyno sheet stating a before and after number, dont know how true it is though.

I Would swap for an aluminun Dshaft 1st chance I get. Factory ds vibrates over 75mph and it gets old fast. Im sure you could pick up a full 1mph in the 1/8mi. Who knows what the diffrence could be at 130.

The stock driveshaft only vibrates if it is bent or out of balance.. it's as simple as getting it rebalanced..

and the stock steel one is stronger than the LS1 aluminum. For a street car the aluminum is fine but if it is a track car I wouldn't suggest it if you are pulling sub 1.8 60fts

is there anything needed for the swap? or just buy the shaft and stick it in?

I had to have the yoke swapped over, or maybe it was the other end/????? either way I took both drive shafts and sent them to a truck shop near by, had one of the ends swapped over and had the aluminum one balanced....

are you still on the 10 bolt? if still on 10 bolt rear it should bolt right up

yeah, i am but it would have to be a shaft out of a T-56 car an not an auto matic right ?

no,,im pretty sure its the same shaft either way..im not an expert but ive looked into the swap myself and ive been told several times auto or 6spd doesnt matter

Every 4th gen DS is identical in dimensions.

Usually the swap is done to replace a vibrating steel DS, which can easily be solved by balancing. With traction, you can easily twist or snap the aluminum one though. Not worth it IMO.

i have one on my car. its made it just quieter at 70+ speeds really. i sixty foot 1.7 flat on it all night and dont have any issues with it. didnt notice any sotp or anything. it bolted right in. went from a 6 spd LS1 car to my A4 LT1.

i love the ls1 drive shaft noticeable diff not like a 150 shot but it felt more like 20hp gain can't hurt

Stock steel shaft is around 16 lbs and the aluminum shaft is around 11 lbs. I have on my 6 speed car with no issues. Unless you're mid 12's or better it's gonna take a little more grunt to break/twist the aluminum one.

Nasy Dude did that to a F-250. Make sure to keep those tires on the spin or slip it off the launch.

I just sold a carbon fiber one that was in my formula when I got it, I should've weighed it but damn it was LIGHTcompared to the steel one I am putting back in it.

I bought a TPiS aluminum driveshaft. Larger and beefier than LS1 shaft. I bought mine because I crunched my stock steel one in the vice trying to change the U-joints (oops).
I love it. No vibrations, quiet, lighter.
