Aquired a wine in my rear... didn't do anything and it just started one day. Hasn't gotten louder and doesn't seem to affect any drivability or anything. It doesn't seem to want to disengage when taking a turn as well as it used to (maybe that do effect drivability?) Had the rear end flushed and noise was still there? Bad gears or carrier? Stock 10 bolt...

Thats just the way 10 bolts are. Seems like every damn F-body with one has a whine to it.

I wouldnt get worried about anything until you start getting clunks.

Unless it splits the the bolts off the ring gear when you launch it sometime :)

Well, it does put the boy to sleep when we're driving it. Anoys the hell out of my wife but when it's just me that's why I have a system. Just wish my son was big enough to ride in the front with me. Damn laws... why can't it still be like 70 something so the little guy could be jumping on the front seat? Thanks fellows...

Mine started making a noise again. I would describe it as a whine, but I'm not sure, as I've never heard what a whining rear is.

But it only does the noise when I turn. A couple of months back, it did the same thing, but I replaced the fluid in the rear.

Any input, what's the noise? Is it leaking the fluid? I know you do see some wetness, but I don't know if it's actually fully leaking it.

it's common... i'd suggest just driving it as is until it gets bad and rebuild it or pick up a new rear.

I daily drove my teal Z for 6 months on a whining rear end before selling. No problems whatsoever. You might check the differential fluid level though.

Mine drove me nuttz for months after gears were installed so i changed the fluid and also added some of that GM additive and I don't hear anything now

gear whine after an installation is almost always.. improper installation. gear whine will ultimately lead to premature gear failure. Mine used to be so loud that you couldn't hear the radio.. but i got another shop to look at it and now it doesn't whine.. just a "hissssssssss" after about 50mph

A whine after gear install can be improper install or just the break in period

What kind of rear do you have Pony_killer?

If you don't have TCS you don't need the additive right?

traction control doesnt matter.. u need to put limited slip additive in a limited slip diff

I was assuming limited slip had to do w/ traction control.

So yeah, that's what I meant. :thud, looks around:

if you've got a local speed shop around that you trust, have them flush it (again) and ask them to see if anything looks strange or if it looks alright... my dad and I had one of our local speed shops do that for us, nothing was wrong with our rear end though, we were just curious cause it was kinda like the TA's check up appointment...

I live in a city that's packed with Military and I don't realy trust anyone. They're a bunch of overpriced pricks but I will see what I can find. It's getting louder and more anoying. Esp at 120 but I wont tell you how I know that...
