Well I plan on swapping my car to a m6 over the winter and I'm just looking for a list of things that I will need. I plan on gettin someones complete setup from either here/ls1tech/ebay. But I just want to make sure I have everything before I get started. I just bought a center console from a 2000 T/A and I was looking at Short throws this morning. I also will probably get a new clutch.

For the PCM will I have to get another one or can I just send mine back to my tuner and get it made for an m6?

Is there anything else that I'm going to need other then the stuff I would get in the typical package deal?

Thanks,

Does anyone have any recommendation for the clutch? It will be a heads and cam car on this clutch too so I'm sure that will affect the clutch. Should I buy one for the setup I have now and then get another for when I get my motor done?

Are you staying with the LT1????

Probably... if not then I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to sell an lt1+t56 with everything needed for a swap.

I think it would be best to get the clutch that will hold the power for your future set-up, you'll have a clutch that is overkill, but when you get your h/c done, you'll be set.

Any recommendations on a brand?

I went with a SPEC Stage 2.

I have driven a Stage 3 before and it feels just like my Stage 2 but has more TQ capacity. The Satge 2 (600 Ft/Lb TQ) was enough for my bolt on car that rarely sees the strip and gets about 1000-1500 miles a year on it. I also wnt with the billet flywheel. Installed (by a friend who is a distributor and shop owner) , it was right around a grand.

The McLeod is a nice piec too if you ganna make good power and like the ability to rebuild, but at the time it was way outta my budget. (will run about $1100 for the street twin and $400 for rebuilds, IIRC)

I have a ram clutch on mine, and have had no problems. I heard a lot of good things with the spec clutches.

So should I get a new PCM or can I just get mine retuned to work with the six speed?

You just need a tune to go from A4 to M6.

I've had 2 RAM clutches in mine, and they worked great. I broke the first one after 10k miles though. If I had to do it all over, I'd drop a Street Twin in there and be done with it.

I run a Mccleod Single Disc 7500rpm. They also make a softer 5500rpm disc as well. I like it.

is that with a stock pressure plate?ive heard of people doing that when they build their own clutch kit..for the price thats what i plan on doing when i finally blow this original stocker up

guess we'll take this one over since the huff's 6spd swap is off

Next, the 16 guage brown and green wire needs to be wired to the reverse light connector. Test this first by connecting them together. If the reverse lights do not turn on, find out what the problem is before continuing. Otherwise, connect them to the reserve light pigtail which plugs into the driver side connector on the tranny. Polarity is not relavent here. Test this again by putting the car in reverse and checking for the reverse lights to come on. Next, connect the black w/white stripe and orange w/black stripe wires together. This is done so you can use your hatch release. Finally, get under the car and cut the VSS connector from the A4 harness. Wire the new VSS connector in (it is located on the passenger side all the way on the back near the bottom). I would reuse the plastic tubing as it needs to be weather protected. Polarity is relavent here - the purple wire goes to A.

I am doing a swap as well and I am to the wiring and need a little clearification. Where do I find the brown and green wires for the reverse light conector and also the black w/white stripe and orange w/black stripe? Is these wires in the large pigtail that originaly hooked up to the auto trany?
I'm sure I'm making it difficult but my brain is stumped at the moment. All help will be awesome.
Thanks:hmm:

Not the tranny, the shifter. Those 6 wires are all on that connector that goes to the floor shifter.

And don't follow his directions for wiring up the hatch release, it's wrong. Splice the orange/black stripe wire to the tan e-brake wire in the console instead. The small black wire goes to nothing.

Ok thanks Spartan7
I'm glad I didn't start cutting yet lol
Looking forward to lowering the car back to the ground tonight and giving it her first go as a six speed
