ok so how hard is it to swap out the tranny in my car? its a 4L60E bone stock and i'm putting in the new one i got. How long does it take? just trying to figure this all out. i might have the time on sunday to swap them out. but i also have to include a 4 hour drive in it too.

any help and or links to how to's is much appreciated. i want or hope this goes hassle free... but it probably wont, so what should i watch out for? Thanks in advance!

Pop out the drive shaft. Undo the torque arm. Hit the 3 bolts on the converter, and then the 6(if I'm right with the auto) on the bell housing.

Reverse cycle and fill tranny.

As a first time job, I'd give it 3 or 4 hours to get it out and at least 2 going back in. I could see this being an all day challenge and you will end up hating your car at 10pm when you really just want to sit back and sip on some beer lol.

Do the cooler lines AFTER the tranny is dropped down a little. And use a flare nut wrench on them, or you'll strip the nuts. If you're doing it on your back, rent a floor tranny jack. And get a 9/16" swivel socket for the bellhousing bolts.

Being your first time, it will be an all day thing, but it's not that bad.

Ok so I ran I to some issues... And I need Yalls help bad!

First, the plug in on my original tranny has more prongs in the plug than my new one! Will it be ok to just plug in? Will everything work ok?

Second. I need a new fly wheel! What should I get and where from? And I really want it running by this weekend! So I it's a place that will have it on hand... Great!

Also on my tranny cooler do you guys still run it through the radiator as well? I would think so but not sure?

Might as well run the factory cooler, but you should hook up an auxiliary cooler as well. It never hurt anybody.

Remember, a hot trans is a sad trans lol.

It's not going to work right. The 95+ use a PWM signal for lock-up, while the 94 does not use PWM. So you will have no lock-up, and you might have issues with the 3-2 solenoid. It's different in 96+ trannies. You need one out of a 94. That is the only year that will work correctly with your PCM.

Run the coolers in series: http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/94Z/trannycooler.htm

The stock flexplate has 153 teeth, and it is balanced (since the crank is externally balanced at the rear).

No you need a 94 4L60E for it to work right .

well... i found a fix for the problem. Ion from Madz28.com has gotten me all squared away. it needs a partial tune, which i was going to do anyways, and a wire ran from the blue connector on the PCM straight to the tranny to the unused prong. he said it will just lock the converter if i didnt have it plugged in or tuned correctly. So i am still hoping i get it up and running by friday. he mailed me out a PCM today and i will have the tranny back in the car hopefully thursday night and just be waiting on the PCM on friday! lol wow what a mess this had been!

You're a nutcase man.

You're doing all this work just to come up here, to KC, to get humiliated. Thus, proving your insanity :)

haha... if i start to lose... and thats a huge IF! i will just push the go baby go button! jk i can take a loss to a friend... but if i do come up there its gonna have everything i got in it for sure. now with the new tune and everything being set up correctly and the tranny not slipping and a better flewplate, not bouncing off the limiter, and the experience i have gained in terms of nitrous. ITS ON! lol i'm looking for 11's really soon!

well the new tranny is in! it runs great, shifts HARD!, and other than the torque converter not locking up and makin the car feel like its got a 2800 stall. its amazing so far. i still have about 450 miles left for break in but so far so good. just waiting on the mail order tune and it will correct the locking issue of the tc. wiring was easy to do for the yr difference as well!
