Well after driving my car and beating on it non stop for 5000 miles with my mods in sig. and teaching my fiance how to drive manuel, and lauching hard on MT Street Drag Radials my clutch started feeling really weak and having bad shudder on take off. So i decided to pull the trans an check out the clutch since my clutch pressure plate and throw out berring is under warrenty at autozone till november. well here what i found... do u think it needs replaced bad?:hmm:

From the looks of the pic, Id say your due for an upgrade, not just a replacement. I think your flywheel may need resurfacing, it looks like I see BLUE....

Im running the Centerforce Dual friction BLAH BLAH BLAH clutch.... so far so good. But then again with BOOST and 30 series Pirellis (junk), I never have to dump the clutch....

im just thinking since its under warrenty and if its bad enough replace it for free while i can but it has to be bad enough for autozone to take it back do u think it is

im pretty sure when the 383 is ready to go in, im doing a twin disk clutch set up, and i have to get a new flywheel with the 383 cuz the 2pc rear main crank has a diffrent bolt pattern so its a $400-$550 flywheel. so i dont want to buy a new flywheel just yet.

so u think to much power for a stock clutch? lol

out of curiosity, Is your 484 not going to be an LT1? just wondering cuz the LT1s are 1 pc rear main seals.

As far as do I think its bad enough..... pics aint the greatest but it looks like its missing chunks to me...

its the 1st two pics that look like they are missing chunks. If they are not, then it looks like you have plenty of material.

yea my 383 is a forged lt1, there pics of it in my album its the red motor on my tool bench on a red cradle. i wish it was a one piece rear main, it has an adaptor on the back of the block that looks dumb and uses a stock 1pc rear main oil pan.

awesome yea it seems to be missing some materal more in certain areas on the presure plate side, the flywheel side looks good (and the flywheel looks like crap so i dont get it). what would cause that?

HEAT, HEAT, HEAT,

and i didnt know the LT1s ever came with a 2pc..... Guess you learn something new everyday.

but wouldnt there be more heat on the flywheel side cuz from the looks at the flywheel it looks horbile compard to the pressure plate it self. the flywheel side on the disk looks great! pressure plate side is the chuncks one.

ehh they didnt come with it the person that ordered this motor before it got it had it set up like that. dumb decision lol i picked it up dirt cheap so i cant complain/

As for why the one side worst than the other is beyond my knowledge....

Hopefully the gurus on here will see it in the AM, or PM today and give you more insight.

thank you i jus hope autozones warrenty covers it again (this is the second one), yea forged 383 long block forged eagle stoker crank, eagle h beam rods srp 16cc forged dish pistons 2.02 1.60 heads cc306 cam, chromolly pushrods 600 lift springs ferrara valves, studded mains, block half filled electric water pump double roller timming chain. cost me about $600 bucks and motor looks like new inside lol

Flywheel looks really bad. Lots of hotspots. You've either been slipping the clutch a whole lot more than you need to, or you're driving with your foot resting on the clutch pedal. Either way, resurfacing might not be enough for that flywheel.

And you need a better clutch. With your mods, that clutch is way too weak. You're just going to tear up the next one.

Just looks beat up, without a proper break in. Lots of hot spots.

fiance learned how to drive on that clutch like i said lol. and wasnt properly broke in at all, flywheel has been like that for along time. just dont want to replace it till i get the 383 ready to go in. i just need to get the car driveable again till the other car gets here. So how come the flywheel side of the clutch disk looks pretty good, and the pressure plate side looks like chunks are out of it and missing more material?

who thinks autozones warrenty will take it back again? lol

Autozone will take anything back. They really dont care. Just bring it in a say it started acting weird and you pulled it and found chunks missing.

awesome, the reason for taking it back before was a rear main seal leaking getting oil on it so i pulled the motor, and they took it all back but they questioned me and tryed to tell me i have a oil leak and doesnt cover the replacement of the clutch if its been exposed to oil an stuff. but the guy belived my buddy who was saying he was my mechainc (hes not, jus a big bullshiter i suck at it) and there was no oil issues and was just a faulty clutch.

Paul, if you cant find a replacement bellhousing, bring it to a reputable welder that can TIG weld it. If done right, you should be OK at your powerlevel.

and i didnt know the LT1s ever came with a 2pc..... Guess you learn something new everyday.

The LT1 never came with a 2 piece.

His 383 was built with a crank from a 2 piece block and an adapter to run it in a 1 piece block.

thats what im thinking but its a really nasty crack, and they would prolly charge more then a used bellhousing would cost wouldnt they? i dont really know of any tig welders around do you? the 383 is going to be going in very very soon so i may just throw it back in with some jb weld like popo8 sugested just to last till i get brits car. it just really sucks taking it apart then finding that!!! i could have had it running tonight!!

thats crazy, but the thing is aluminum is weak and its the drive train that takes a bad beating.

I understand....
If the concenses is that it wont hold, look around for a trashed car and pull the trans outta it...
Not sure what the SALVAGE YARD situation is down your way.

there a few lt1 cars in the junkyard but none with a t56, i might try to jb weld it, since its going to get pulled again soon anyways i have a lead on a bell housing in miami so im going to check it out on monday... im kinda stuck where i cant work on it anyways messed my neck up taking it out by myself laying on the garage floor too long lol.

well from what im being told, its nearly impossible to get ahold of the bellhousing itself, so i went on ebay an the only one i found was 385+ shipping. Trans am creations in miami doesnt sell them anymore since gm quit making them they only sell it with the hole trans. So i think im just going to look around for someone to weld it like mpe331lx sugested but would it be very prone to cracking again when the 383 goes in and the power level gets a tad higher? i was going to jb weld this one and then order a new one to save for when i pull it again but that idea is gone now.

AChotrod
08-10-2009, 12:10 PM
yeah its gonna be real tough without buying the entire trans. Doesnt anyone make an aftermarket bellousing?

95formula383lt1
08-10-2009, 12:25 PM
im not sure im looking around at that now. i hate aluminum lol.

edit... lakewood and mcleod make them $440-$500 plus shipping :(

Damn thats pricey.... I would just JB weld it for now and keep your eye out for a used one or start saving. I might buy an aftermarket pc sometime in the future and would sell mine but I need alot of other crap first.

yea thats my problem i have alot of other important go fast crap to buy. and dont want to spend the coin on something like that its not going to make it any faster lol. calling welding shops tomorrow for some quotes.
