Me and a friend are going to the track in a couple weeks, it'll be my first time. I heard it was much easier to catch traction than it strongeris on the street. Anyways, I'm a little nervous about my rear end. I have a 4.10 ratio. Other than a more rigid differential cover, what else can I do do to strengthen the rear end?

Buy a 12 bolt/9inch/S60....really dumping money into a 10 bolt it worthless IMO

Agreed. The 4.10's are physically weaker than the lower ratio gears too. A 10 bolt is not worth dumping hte money into. If you're going to purchase parts, just put the money in a sock under your bed. THen when you go to do it again, do the same. Third time, go buy your new big boy rear end.

you think one would net a better quarter mile from 4.10's on street tires or 3.42s on nittos (I wouldn't launch hard on DRs... 1,500-2 and quickly feather out)

If you plant well at 1.5-2....you'll bog, launch around 3500.

Just leave easy on it...keep the street tires on you should be fine. I was launching at 2500-3000 on a 3500 convertor and 4.10s in my 10bolt...held up quite a while (20-25 passes). Never actually broke, but was whining like a navy sailor when I replaced it.
Have to be a little more careful with a 6speed, especially with 4.10s.

i have a link from my former hangout. the axles are almost identical so this should work until you get into the higher HP area.

s-10 rear ends have many of the same problems and you can work with this rear to a point.
