if so what size tire u running to make it thru the traps without running out of gear? i was wondering if i could run 4.10's and sneak by on my small 26" tires in the 1/4 mile limiter set at 6100rpms.

any info would be great, tony

oh sorry im talking about A4 cars obviously

You will end up using a 27" tall tire or raise the limiter...with a 26" i feel you may hit the limiter just short of the line.
also you WILL NOT run out of gear but you WILL run out of motor with 4.10s.

If you run the 1/8th mile a lot, then 4.10's are excellent choices, otherwise you'll need a tall tire like the post above.

i use 4.10s and i dont have a problem. on my street tires they are 26 inch and my MTs are 28s. when i spray on the 26s i shift into fourth right before the line and on the 28s its 3rd all day!

i always wondered about that. after 4.10's i feel like its faster all around.. but that's just because it rips through the gears faster. is top end really sacrificed?

see to me i feel like it helped me everywhere. a few of my friends with LS1s used to pull on me on the top end but with the 4.10s i dont have that problem and in fact i usually continue pulling on them. now then i know my car wont hit 160+ anymorei think i would be lucky to see 145 now. maybe with the MT on i might get over that but i wouldnt do it on those tires anyways.

I gained MPH w/4.10s, the car pulls much harder in every gear! i have 285/35/19s out back and last time out i ran it up to 155 and 5800rpm still pullin nicely but ran out of room to grab 6th

^yep.

You gain a mechanical advantage with 4.10s, enabling your obtainable top speed to go up without adding power. Wind resistance stops bone stock lt1s at right around 145, but with 4.10s it'll go up. Your projected/theoretical top speed goes down, but it takes massive quantities of torque/power to reach that with stock gearing...

FWIW: My M6 car with 4.10 runs through the traps at 6100 (factory tach, probably off). I run about 1/2 bolt ons, not anywhere near full bolt on for sure. Thats on a 26x1150 tire.

I'm running 4.10's with 275/60/15 tires ,runs through the traps about 6000@106 in D.
Last Wed. was the first time out this year. Last year I was running a 26in Nitto, I was running out of steam about 200ft from the end. Hoping to try again tomorrow nite. Jeff
