View Full Version : Dyno with a YSi
So we had a get together saturday and dyno time was cheap. I made 8 pulls mostly just to see what the fuel was doing. Started off at 390hp 440tq, the car was so rich it wouldnt go over 4k it would just miss and sputter. I wound up pulling a shitload of fuel out everywhere but the A/F curve is still seriously fuxored. Beleive it or not, that is way better than i started with. I was picking up 20-30whp per pull when my blower belt took a shit and ripped a heater hose off the water pump. Here was the results, maximum of about 13psi, when it drops over 6k thats when it shit the bed.

lol sorry to laugh but the a/f is hilarious... lean at tip in then peg the wideband rich then lean as hell
careful with that all you might wash the cylinders and then on the opposite side, might fry a valve...
nice numbers regardless
Yeah isnt that something, at least it comes off the bottom now, it was just straight 10.0 or less from start to finish. Think im going to go right ahead and attempt a megasquirt box or something, the lt1 pcm is just a ass backward way of doing things.
On a side note, any you blown guys have a decent tune you could send me i could look at? Just need a better baseline

you do have at least a 2 bar or 3 bar tune correct lol?
The car uses a MAF based setup with a rpm based enrichment. Im not too keen with ltx stuff but i do alot of LS1 tuning. Is there a way to convert to a 93 SD system with a 2-bar? I have been looking for different options, i hate MAFs

get a hold of pcmforless, I'm pretty sure they do conversions.. I don't know the ins and outs of it though

Ditto. Alvin should be able to set you up with a 2Bar, but I'm not sure that you can get a 3Bar in on the system.

Who did the tune for you?
Nobody, it was just in there, i beleive its a vector motorsports tune. Otherwise there is a PCM4Less sticker on the pcm, not sure from when. At any rate im going to implement a 2-bar SD tune using the stock pcm so that should take care of all the problems. Just need to get a wideband working first.

Is this CJ Matt's, Old car? If so, something is really wrong with your car. That car did 550RWHP with a T-trim at only 9-10lbs or so(no where near maxed out) that blower is rated to 1200cfm the YSI is like 1650 or so. Contact Ed Eright, he can get the most out of your setup IMO.
Yeah it is, and it needs some work. Ive gotten a 2-bar tune going and it has picked up alot of power now, also the inlet to the blower needs to be re-done as its very restrictive.
Also matt told me that setup had like 12:1 compression, that would make up a large difference from the current 9:1. I had close to 10 degrees of timing to add since that dyno also. At the hp peak it was making about 12psi only, indicating it was having issues on the blower side.

If you're running a YSi, and plan on doing more than minimal boost with it, its gonna be best that you stay right where you are at 9:1 CR. 12:1 CR is WAY to much compression to run safely boosted.
I am only running 15#'s of boost through a D1SC (T-Trim equivilant), and my CR is perfect at 8.8:1.
You'll find the HP when you get things dialed in with the tune. It's more than just a rich lean game. You need to have your timing right, and compensate correctly for the MAF after it maxes out with the PE tables. Not to mention you need to make sure everything is correct with the car. By running that rich previously, I would strongly consider changing out the 02 sensors and the plugs as they are probably fouled out, and not reading properly. That right there will throw off a lot.
wow bumping an old post! The blower is gone, and if you re-read the engine "did" have high compression, long ago before i bought it. This is my 7th FI car, not new to the game.
Also, using a LTx MAF based system with PE tables, like the way i bought this car, is exactly the wrong setup. I have converted to a 2-bar SD system on the stock PCM and didnt get any time to dial in this at all. At any rate, im porting the heads, changing the cam, and doing a big single turbo over the next 8-10 months. I hate belts, again to me its the wrong way to do it.

LOL, it's not that old of a post. Good luck getting the new setup together!
