Be prepared for a 5 page flame war.

I like 6 speeds better, and I've owned both. My 6 speeds got better fuel economy, and were a heck of a lot more fun to drive, IMO. A 6 speed driven by someone who can really drive should be faster if just due to the gearing (94-97 6 speed cars have 3.42 rear gearing) however it's going to be a drivers race in a quarter mile, both cars being stock for stock.

That being said, it's a heck of a lot harder to pull of a good launch in a 6 speed, so for your average driver, they will be quicker in a automatic car.

GU5 = 3.23
GU6 = 3.42

Good driver = 6spd ftw
Amateur = Auto

I consider myself a decent driver... above average, but nothing crazy.... but I have an Auto because the price was right. I have always, and will always prefer a manual trans.

if i did have 3.42s would that make the car rare? :)

Ive had both and Im back to a M6. Just more fun all around IMO, Bone stock a M6 with a decent driver would usually win.
In a modded car A4s make better drag cars, and thats why I actually bought one, but then never had as much fun with it so I sold it.

It's all in your driving style and what you like best. I've had both, and I definitely like manual better. Much more fun on the street. But I also don't go to the strip.

agreed, an M6 is way more fun than autos..... being able to drive and hear your engine roar until you feel that its time for the next gear is awesome. And like was stated before, if your a good enough driver you'll have no problem with the shifting.

Auto is ideal for a drag racing car, Manual is ideal for an auto-cross car. Street and show cars fall in-between those.

It all depends on how you want to use the car.

Oh, and Autos are more friendly on rearends :D

I can honestly say that if I had a 6spd... my rearend would not be functioning today.

If you're not shifting, you're not driving :laugh:

Dont tell Tanner or Road Trip that. Im all for a m6 race car which is what my car is leading up too.

If you look at the top times for drag cars, Autos far outnumber the manuals.
