I already forgot, is it 2wd or 4wd? What's the purpose? Weekend cruiser? DD? Offroad? Race track?
Any specs on the heads/cam/estimated hp #s?

I actually like the color on the intake and such... those headers are crazyyy looking especially the driver's side, what's the approx. weight on that thing? so you opened the heads a bit, what are you using for a cam?

haha its 2wd, im just building it for fun, i plan on taking it to the track during the summer and stuff but its more so to just have some fun and to shut up ricers and mustangs, the heads are stock lt1 that i ported, polished and gasket matched with the intake, the cam is a lt4 hotcam :metal:

it used to weigh 3600#'s with me in it and a half a tank of gas, but that was with an all iron 350 in it, the lt1 is considerably lighter with the aluminum heads and intake. the cam is just the lt4 hotcam

Seems pretty impressive to me. Those OBS are pretty heavy. Thick sheet metal. I think my the '96 I sold was a couple weeks ago was about 4400lbs.

yeah well the bed is fiberglass and its the base model truck, with crank windows, no power anything for that matter and just less garbage that makes a truck comfortable i guess but yeah i was surprised too :shiner:

'96 Silverado 1500 ECSB, Vortec 5.0L, 2WD. I think the '99 Z71 I'm drivin now is about as heavy.... The 4WD adds some weight but they cut some weight out of the truck when they designed it (aluminum heads, thinner sheet metal, etc.)

Yeah, it's a '99 Silverado LT Z71 with a 5.3L Vortec. I know, I'm a traitor on a Gen II site with a Gen III

glad to be here, and to be part of the truck gang! although its a work in progress. by the way, did you use a factory lt1 harness. I ask because im torn between buying a stand alone harness or using a modified stock harness. i think with my application the stand alone harness will work out better because i can use my factory guage senders i.e. oil pressure sensor, water temp, voltage and such.

Nice looking build-up. Are the headers for Impala's (B-Body's), they look like them.

I used a painless performance harness. You can look at a .pdf of their instructions on their website to get an idea of the difficulty and what is involved... it's pretty easy. Mine uses the stock truck's wiring for gauges, except the speedo.. I ran the factory cluster wire to the little wire labled "vss output" on the painless harness.
I basically went through the stock trucks wiring with some pin-outs and pulled each un-needed wire one at a time. That wasn't so much fun.
There are some S-10 guys that swear by looking at schematics, and "rebuilding" a camaro's harness. They delete what they don't want, and extend what they need to extend. Sounds like a headache to me :D
Oh, painless offers two harnesses, one is standard, one is extended to place the pcm under the dash ;)
Oh, and I feel ya on the wrecked, so now black front-end :jest:

i think im going to go painless then because i dont want the pcm in the engine compartment for a clean look plus i got the money for painless so why not! oh nice front end:shiner: are trucks are all bruised up:metal:

A lttle update! i got a harness from a 95 impala ss, im almost done hooking it up and figuring it all out. I got the fuel pump working and all the guage harness mated with the new harness and working!!
i just have to rework the fuel lines somehow so thats happening tomorrow and im gonna try to fire it up!:metal: Oh and chevy42083, i was wondering how you tackled your fuel lines, im scratching my head as to what i should do about it.
I also had a question about my lifters. I adjusted the rockers cold before i put the engine in, and im sure the lifters were bled out due to them sitting for a month or so. i soaked them in oil before i put them in but it has sat for another three months, im all scatter brained right now so bear with me but my question is, will i have the rockers adjusted too tight since the lifters were most likely bled down, and if so what would you reccomend i do about it? Thanks for reading my novel!!! and for the help:hail:

Nobody wants to chime in here? any ways i figured out the fuel lines and got the motor to start yesterday, but it would only run for 2 maybe 3 seconds then shut down. I was thinking that since im using a caprice harness and computer thst the pass key thingy isnt letting it keep running by shutting off fuel or spark.
I dont know much aboiut it so if somebody has some expierience with that i would greatly apprieciate any advice!!!

I think you are right. I didn't have an issue with it, but not sure if my PCM or painless performance harness solved that issue.
The correct term is VATS... vehicle anti-theft system. Maybe that will help you find something in your searches.

I thought that if vats was indeed working, it wouldnt even crank or anything, because i got it to run, just nor stay running, but like i said i dont know much about it.

Like i said, I don't know much about it... just what I've read in other threads.
Ignore the thread title "built 4.3 swap / auto to T56"... he went with a fullsize 350 :D
post number 1215 should be videos of what his truck was doing when passlock/VATS wasn't letting it run.

So, what was it? Always nice to know the solution in case it pops up in someone else's swap. :)

Well, i did a ton of research and a guy on ls1lt1 had the same problem with the vats/passkey bull, and he ended up getting a vats module from a 93 pontiac bonneville, and since there is absolutely no camaro's or caprice's in my local junk yards, i did the same and found about ten of those cars. I pulled the vats module from one of them, hooked the dark blue fuel enable wire to the dark blue on the module, gave it 12v power, 12v key power and ground. since i didnt have the original key for that car, i got an adjustable resistor and started trying each of the fifteen resistance values that gm used and found it was lucky number thirteen, made a resistor pluged it in and vroom it went!!!!

So on a scale of 1 to 10 how hard was this swap? I have a 93 silverado i want to do this swap to.

Was it injector or pump? You should still have some injector. Glad to see the Hulk made it on.

Turned out to be the injectors, my pump is a 93 vette pump. i didnt know but i had 1993 injectors and in 93 everything was 22# @ 43psi, i put 33# svo red tops in and made a little more power but during the second dyno run, my opti took a dump, im getting a high res code and a low res code so the timing wasnt advancing like it should.

on a scale of one to ten i would say about an 8 or nine, i only say that because i took a 94 caprice harness and graphted it with mine but if you got a stand alone harness i would say maybe a 6, but thats relative to my knowledge you know, you may consider it a 3/10 or a 12/10 you know.
