96 and 97 definitely work, but I'm not sure about 95. Anything older than that won't.

Yes F-body only I believe. They wanted my own trans to avoid any issues

ok so from what i gather i need a 95 96 97 f body one piece case 6 bolt tail section,, sound right?

Should be a 4 bolt tailshaft, not six.

95,96, and 97 all will work.

Solid bellhousing out of an s10 if you can find one, but most 96 and 97s have got the detatchable bellhousing and they take too much work to make them fit.

A full size truck transmission will work also, that is what I'm using, just need to grind a little off of the bellhousing and change the tailshaft from the one off of your old transmission. Something on the neutral safety switch has to be changed to where the linkage hooks into the side, thats why Im having a shop get everything changed over on it for me, i dont like wiring.

And obviously any V8 fbody will work from 95-97. The six cylinder transmissions will not work, the 3.8 has a different bolt pattern.

Hope that helps.

will a 4l60 from a 3.8 lt camaro work?

IronOutlaw

No, a 3.8 4l60e will not work.

I recommend Complete Transmission on highway 78 if you want a rebuild. Randall, the owner, is a straight up guy and really knows what he is doing.

Yank. You get what you pay for.really dont have a grand to lay down on a converter, dont need anything to wild staying pretty much stock on the z28

Edge, yank, and vigilante are all popular brands.
A couple other cheaper ones are TCI and fuddle. Fuddle has good products Ive just heard bad things about their customer service, like you may have to wait 6 months to recieve your product.

Ive researched a lot about torque converters, being in the middle of a trans swap myself, and decided that Im better off just staying stock then running a cheap converter that may fall apart and ruin my new transmission.

you may want to consider running an s10 converter they stall a little over 2000 rpms and you can get one for a little over 200 bucks from GMPARTSDIRECT.

what is a stock converter about 1800rpms?

IronOutlaw
02-11-2009, 09:14 PM
Yeah, 1500 to 1800 I think, just from driving my car, not sure on the exact number.

really dont have a grand to lay down on a converter, dont need anything to wild staying pretty much stock on the z28Like I said, you get what you pay for. If you absolutely don't want to spend that much I'd look at TCI or Fuddle (as IronOutlaw said) but don't expect as much out of them as the Yanks.

A local guy has a the 3rd highest n/a 60' on the National TBSS Forums in a pretty much stock TBSS with a 3800 Yank, beating quite a few h/c TBSS's.

I wanted to throw a 3200 Yank or Vig on my '94 Z when I had it and I was going to shoot for low 13's with just exhaust and a stall.

I'm not trying to criticize your decision, I just want to reinforce that you absolutely get what you pay for when it comes to stalls. Don't want you to blow $300 on a stall and be unhappy with it.

If you don't want to spend that much I'd recommend spending the $$$ on something else probably.

was looking at a TCI 2800
http://www.edgeracingconverters.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12_22&products_id=51 :hammer:

I searched TCI 2800 and looked at a few threads on CZ28. People seem to think TCI is crap, and I'd take their word over mine. (As I haven't owned an auto in ~3 years) I'd also do a search on Edge converters on CZ28 and see what their opinion is on that, but from the threads I read on TCI, Edge was mentioned a couple times and seems to be one of the better "budget converters."

i used an edge 3600 in my 4l60e. was a great converter. i spent like $550.00 on it. so it's still alittle pricey compared to the tci or fuddle. hell when my trans broke i sold the edge to a guy in az. talked to andre at edge, and he overhauled it for the guy for a $100.00. so +1 for edge!

I dont know if you would be willing to ship the trans but i have a guys that rebuilt my wifes tranmission in her lsx car. Cahal performance transmission. He has tons of experience with the 4l60 and th350-400. Hes located in newark,DE.

Here is the link:

Look through some of the cars that he has done. He has three packages that you can do and price isn't to bad
