Is anyone on here running a 396 stroker? I am going to put 1 together (as soon as money get better) that is very streetable as it will have to past emissions and be daily driven.

i got one, with a le2 set up, doubt it will pass emissions but, in my opinion its streetable, it was my daily driver for almost 2 years till i bought a jeep

More than likely wont pass emissions, and you can street anything :D

Really all depends on the supporting mods, cam and tune.
I don't see why you couldn't build a 396 that can pass emissions tests.
Keep in in mind that there is a significant increase in machine work required to build a 396 VS a 383.

That's what i've heard from several people. I was thinking about about comps 306 cam and a tune from pcmforless.

Wouldn't it be easier to get it to pass with OBD2 ? Since they have started just checking the computer, if it will run without throwing any codes or having any stored codes it would pass?

But on another aspect if your building a 396, you are more than likely going to do your own tuning or having someone hand tune it. Couldn't you tune to pass emmission? There are a lot of things you do to make your engine more effecient to make more power rather than more fuel, wouldn't this help? I mean small exhaust isn't put in because it won't pass emmission but because of cost, keeping car cost down.

Of course you are going to have to pass visual inspection so does limit certain aspects. (egr, air, exhaust etc.) Which most who build a 396 are going for max power and not worrying about emmission

But I don't see why it couldn't be done, yes you may not get the full potential but you would get a lot of it.

Oops so a topic I am interested in came up and I rambled.

I'm so glad we don't have emissions testing here!

396s are generally very streetable even when built pretty good. the emissions would mostly be based on compression and cam profile.

Hell with emissions! I just use my 396 stroker to go fast!
